Role Overview
The Procurement Head / GM – Procurement will be responsible for leading end-to-end procurement operations, strategic sourcing initiatives, vendor development, and supply chain coordination across manufacturing operations.
The role requires strong expertise in procurement planning, supplier negotiations, inventory optimization, commercial management, and cost reduction strategies. The incumbent will work closely with production, engineering, quality, finance, and supply chain teams to ensure uninterrupted material availability and procurement efficiency while maintaining quality and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Procurement & Sourcing
· Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with organizational goals
· Lead strategic sourcing initiatives for raw materials, components, consumables, and indirect procurement
· Drive procurement transformation and cost optimization initiatives
· Monitor market trends, pricing movements, and sourcing risks
· Strengthen procurement governance and supplier management practices
Vendor Development & Supplier Management
· Identify, evaluate, onboard, and develop strategic suppliers
· Build long-term supplier partnerships to improve quality, delivery, and cost efficiencies
· Conduct supplier performance reviews and corrective action initiatives
· Lead commercial negotiations, contracts, and annual rate agreements
· Ensure supplier compliance with quality and operational standards
Procurement Operations & Material Planning
· Ensure timely procurement and uninterrupted material availability for production
· Coordinate with planning, production, and stores teams for procurement scheduling
· Optimize inventory levels and reduce excess stock and procurement delays
· Improve procurement cycle times and operational efficiency
· Ensure effective procurement documentation and ERP management
Cost Optimization & Commercial Management
· Drive value engineering and cost reduction initiatives across procurement categories
· Analyze procurement spend and identify savings opportunities
· Negotiate commercial terms, payment cycles, and supplier agreements
· Support budgeting and procurement cost control initiatives
· Improve procurement efficiencies through process optimization
Cross Functional Coordination
· Collaborate with engineering, quality, finance, logistics, and production teams
· Support new product development and localization initiatives
· Ensure smooth coordination between suppliers and internal stakeholders
· Drive procurement support for expansion and operational projects
Compliance & Process Governance
· Ensure adherence to procurement policies and organizational standards
· Strengthen internal procurement controls and approval processes
· Ensure compliance with statutory, contractual, and quality requirements
· Support audit requirements related to procurement and vendor management
Key Skills & Competencies
· Strong expertise in Strategic Sourcing and Procurement Management
· Extensive experience in Vendor Development and Supplier Relationship Management
· Strong knowledge of Manufacturing Procurement and Supply Chain Operations
· Expertise in Cost Optimization and Commercial Negotiation
· Experience in Inventory Planning and Material Management
· Exposure to ERP / SAP Procurement Systems
· Strong analytical, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
· Ability to manage procurement operations across multiple categories and suppliers
· Strong cross-functional coordination and team management capabilities
· Experience in Automotive, Auto Components, Heavy Engineering, or Industrial Manufacturing sectors preferred
- Malayalam language proficiency is preferred / mandatory for effective coordination with local vendors, factory operations, and cross-functional teams
