Job Description for Procurement Manager
We are seeking a highly experienced Procurement Manager to lead the end-to-end procurement function for a large continuous manufacturing operation with an annual purchase spend of approximately USD 75 million. The role will act as Head of Department, overseeing both import and local procurement. The ideal candidate will have strong exposure to continuous process industries (preferably glass manufacturing), deep supplier networks, and a proven ability to ensure cost competitiveness, supply continuity, and risk mitigation in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Leadership Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the overall procurement function, including imports, local sourcing, and strategic sourcing initiatives.
- Provide leadership, direction, and performance management to the Procurement Managers and the wider procurement team.
- Develop and implement medium- and long-term procurement strategies aligned with business, production, and cost objectives.
- Build a strong procurement governance framework, policies, and controls.
Sourcing & Supplier Management
- Develop, qualify, and manage a robust supplier base for raw materials, consumables, spares, and services, in close coordination with Technical, Production, and QA teams.
- Drive vendor development, supplier performance management, and long-term partnerships.
- Lead high-value commercial negotiations, contract structuring, renewals, and benchmarking exercises.
- Ensure availability of critical materials with zero stock-outs and minimal reliance on premium or emergency shipments.
- Cost, Risk & Performance Management
- Control procurement spend and drive a culture of sustainable cost reduction without compromising quality, safety, or reliability.
- Identify and mitigate supply risks related to logistics, foreign exchange, lead times, geopolitical issues, and supplier concentration.
- Track, analyse, and report key procurement KPIs including savings, supplier performance, inventory health, and service levels.
- Work closely with the FC on budgeting, forecasting, and working capital optimization.
- Operational Execution
- Ensure timely finalization of purchase orders, contracts, and delivery schedules.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure clear technical specifications, commercial alignment, and compliance.
- Support procurement activities for CAPEX and project-related purchases, where applicable.
- Ensure full compliance with internal policies, ERP processes, and statutory requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
- 12–15 years of progressive experience in procurement within a large manufacturing / continuous process industry.
- Proven experience as Procurement Manager / Head of Procurement managing large spend portfolios (USD 50M+ preferred).
- Strong exposure to import procurement, international sourcing, and logistics.
- Experience in glass manufacturing or similar continuous industries (cement, steel, chemicals, process plants) will be a strong advantage.
- Demonstrated expertise in:
- Strategic sourcing and contract negotiations
- Vendor development and market intelligence
- Cost analysis and commercial decision-making
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
- High level of financial and numerical acumen.
- Proficient in ERP systems (SAP preferred) and MS Office (especially Excel and PowerPoint).
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
- MBA or Postgraduate qualification is preferred but not mandatory.
- Experience in project procurement / CAPEX sourcing is an added advantage.
