Role objective: An Assistant Manager of Procurement in a life insurance company drives cost-effective sourcing strategies for corporate services, IT, and facilities. They oversee vendor negotiations, enforce regulatory compliance, and manage purchasing workflows. This role demands strong analytical, contract management, and vendor relationship skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Sourcing & Vendor Management: Identify profitable suppliers, build strategic partnerships, and negotiate advantageous terms and pricing for software, hardware, and facilities.
- Contract Administration: Assist in drafting, reviewing, and executing vendor contracts while mitigating supply chain and compliance risks.
- Spend Analysis & Reporting: Track departmental spending, compile market data, and generate reports on cost-saving metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) for senior management.
- Policy Compliance: Ensure all purchasing activities adhere to legal regulations, data security standards, and internal life insurance governance protocols.
- Team Leadership: Mentor junior procurement staff, manage daily workflows, and collaborate with internal departments to address business needs.
- Assist in organizing and overseeing the various Compliance related activities within procurement, ensuring the guidelines are followed and maintaining the tracker by following up, tracking with multi stake holders within the company.
- • Managing Risk assessment of the Procurement and other stake holders.
- • Governance including: Control/Risk assessment, managing the Control assessment as per Aviva Group guidelines.
- • Overseeing and monitoring the adherence of company policy, processes and controls to ensure effective procurement.
- • Policies and Procedures: Establishing clear policies and procedures for procurement activities, outlining the steps from requisition to contract management.
- • Compliance: Ensuring adherence to legal requirements, industry regulations, and internal policies to prevent fraud, corruption, and unethical practices.
- • Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating risks associated with procurement, such as supplier performance, market fluctuations, and geopolitical factors.
- • Transparency: Fostering openness in the procurement process to build trust among stakeholders and providing clear communication on decisions, actions, and outcomes.
- • Performance Measurement: Establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of the procurement process and the performance of suppliers.
- • Supplier Management: Implementing processes for selecting, evaluating, and managing suppliers to ensure they meet quality, cost, and ethical standards.
- •• Vendor Management, in terms of Monthly vendor review, resolution to the issues by coordination with cross functional team within Aviva.
- • Helping Team and Managers to review and prepare the scoping of Goods & Services.
- • Conducting vendor verifications, RFI, Pre-Qualification, RFP and RFQ with vendors to identify and evaluate the right vendor.
- • Tracking the Purchase Requisition/Purchase Orders in system
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: Typically 2–7 years of experience in purchasing, strategic sourcing, or supply chain management—often with background experience in the financial services sector.
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or a related field.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in enterprise procurement and contract lifecycle management (CLM) platforms like SAP Ariba, Coupa, or Oracle.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional negotiation capabilities, strong commercial awareness, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
