Position Overview
The Sr. Injection Molding Engineer will plan and execute activities to support New Product Introductions on which injection molded parts are needed.
The aim of the job is:
- Lead the Injection Molding tooling technical function for both Internal Project Teams and Client Teams and manage new injection mold tool introduction to the Operations Team.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees.
- Ensure optimal design solutions for new product challenges for molding, and auxiliar equipment to integrate the best Injection Molding Machine technology, and the best robot system (pickers), and the best technology for temperature controllers, hot runner heaters, chillers, loaders and any equipment needed for the project.
- Work with Product Design Team & New Program personnel to support the introduction of new tools to production site for new products while ensuring high level of process reliability.
- Manage optimization, maintenance, and problem-solving projects on existing molding tool portfolio.
- Expert integrating decoupling molding, systematic and scientific molding system for the process development to define the best optimal and robust windows parameters.
- Train, coach, and develop technicians for injection molding process to assure that all process parameters, all characteristics, and all equipment is validated accordingly and trained to each technician.
- Participate in the troubleshooting sheets per each new injection mold and new process, and support for the existing tools and process.
- Participate in work sessions for process improvements, cycle time reduction, kaizens, root cause analysis or problem solving related to injection molding process.
- Apply advanced statistical tools like DOE, CPk, SPC for process definition and process controls.
- Participate on the new Mold Design revisions, and coordinate activities for the Buy-off, run and rates, operations qualifications, related to new molds and new process.
- Assist to Factory Acceptance Trials at the tool shop site to assure mold was properly working and the form fit and function assured.
- Participate and execute programs to improve OEE for new products or for the existing.
- Ensure all engineering changes are managed through the relevant procedures including documentation, equipment manuals, and CAD drawing controls.
- Provide directions to tooling personnel as appropriate way of reviewing tool downtime and preventative maintenance data, tool running status, escalations and corrective actions to ensure achieving set targets.
- Ensure that there is regular communication and coordinated planning of all new and existing molding tool projects using visual communication boards.
Job Requirements & Qualification
- Degree or diploma in a relevant field, mechanical engineering, polymer engineering, plastic transformation engineering or equivalent career.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Design and Manufacturing of molding tools for precision connector industry, Automotive, Medical of Electronic molding parts is a plus.
- Engineering team management skills and experience.
- Experience in overmolding for automotive connectors.
- Experience in double or triple shot injection molding process.
- High level of knowledge on Process settings for Injection Molding Machines, Engle, Battenfield, Toshiba, Arburg, Sumitomo among others.
- High level user experience with high end 3D molding software.
- Molding process knowledge.
- Knowledge of troubleshooting technics, e.g.: 8D, 5 Why, Ishikawa, Shainin, Lean Six Sigma,
- Reading technical documentation.
- Knowledge of MS Office.
- Advanced presentation skills.
- Minimum B2 level English skills.
- Willingness to travel.
- RJG Master Molder certified, level I as a must, or Level II preferable
