We have a great opportunity for the Principal Salesforce Developer - SFDC to join the digital engineering team within Ferguson IT. As a Principal Salesforce Developer, you will serve as a senior technical authority for the Salesforce platform, shaping engineering strategy and leading the design of secure, scalable, and resilient solutions across complex business domains. You will influence enterprise architecture, establish development standards, solve the most challenging technical problems, and provide technical direction across multiple teams. You will partner closely with solution architects, product leaders, engineering teams, and business stakeholders to deliver sustainable platform capabilities and measurable business outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Own Salesforce architecture across Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Experience Cloud and integrations, ensuring scalable, secure and maintainable solutions.
- Provide technical leadership for Salesforce Data Cloud/CDP, including data ingestion, data modeling, identity resolution, calculated insights, segmentation and activation.
- Design and govern enterprise integrations across Salesforce, ERP, middleware, Commerce Cloud, external APIs and data platforms.
- Translate complex business requirements into robust Salesforce solutions, architecture designs, data models and integration specifications.
- Define cross-cloud architecture across CRM, Commerce, Marketing Cloud and Data Cloud to deliver a unified customer experience.
- Establish and enforce engineering standards across Apex, LWC, integrations, security, data, DevOps, testing and Salesforce platform limits.
- Drive performance, scalability and reliability by proactively addressing architectural bottlenecks, governor limits, integration issues and technical debt.
- Act as a technical authority, mentor senior engineers and tech leads, conduct design reviews and elevate engineering standards.
- Evaluate and recommend emerging Salesforce capabilities including Data Cloud, Agent force, AI and automation based on practical business value.
- Partner with Product, Enterprise Architecture, Security, Data and business teams to define the Salesforce roadmap, drive build-vs-buy decisions and own complex initiatives end-to-end.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- 8+ years of application development experience, including extensive hands-on Salesforce engineering and demonstrated leadership of complex enterprise solutions.
- Bachelor’s Degree in MIS, Computer Science, Math, Engineering, or a comparable field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- Advanced Salesforce certifications are strongly preferred, such as Platform Developer II, Application Architect, System Architect, Sales Cloud Consultant, or Service Cloud Consultant.
- Proven experience defining architecture and technical direction in a large-scale, multi-team Salesforce environment.
- Expert knowledge of Salesforce platform capabilities, including Apex, Lightning Web Components, Flow, data modeling, sharing and security, identity and access management, SSO, APIs, asynchronous processing, and platform limits.
- Deep experience with front-end and back-end development using Lightning Web Components, Apex, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, web services, and integration patterns.
- Experience designing and implementing secure external-facing applications using Experience Cloud.
- Strong command of Salesforce software development lifecycle practices, including Git-based source control, continuous integration and delivery, automated testing, and deployment tools such as Copado or GitHub Actions.
- Demonstrated success designing for scalability, reliability, security, performance, maintainability, and operational support in enterprise environments.
- Advanced debugging, problem-solving, and investigative skills, with experience leading root cause analysis across complex systems and integrations.
- Experience working in Agile product and engineering environments and guiding delivery across multiple teams and priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical tradeoffs, influence decisions, and build alignment with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, mentor engineers, and operate independently in ambiguous, high-impact situations.
