Company Description
VisiLean is an innovative, cloud-based lean production management platform designed specifically for the construction industry. It provides construction professionals and workers with a unique system that synchronizes process and product visualization. As the only product in the construction sector offering a production management workflow integrated with Building Information Modeling (BIM), VisiLean is at the forefront of advancing efficiency and collaboration in construction projects.
The opportunity
Construction is the largest industry on earth, and one of the last to be redesigned. Most of it still runs on WhatsApp screenshots, printed Excel sheets, and tribal knowledge held in one person's head. We think a generation of designers will look back on this decade the way they look at early Stripe or Figma: as the moment the work got real. VisiLean is one of the places that work is happening, and we want a designer who wants to put their fingerprints on it.
VisiLean connects Lean Construction's Last Planner System with BIM. In plain terms: we tie the 3D digital twin of a building to the people physically pouring concrete on the slab today, and keep those two realities in sync. Our customers run megaprojects (highways, data centres, metros, high-rises) across India, the UK, EU, the US, and the Middle East.
Why this role
The buyers of construction software are Digitalisation heads and Project Directors sitting in head offices. The users are foremen working in 42°C heat, wearing gloves, on a 4G connection. The UX problem is making one product work for both, in every climate, on every device, every day: research on a jobsite, flows that survive offline, interfaces that hold up under a thumbprint of cement dust.
We are hiring one designer to own the product end-to-end (web, tablet, mobile, and the integrations between them), set the design direction alongside the founders, and grow the team from here. At Senior, you'll ship the hardest surfaces yourself. At Principal, you'll shape what we build next, raise the craft bar across the company, and hire and mentor the designers who come after you.
The kind of problems you'll work on
- How do you visualise a construction schedule (3D model, time, and thousands of dependencies) so a project director catches a three-week delay before it happens?
- How do you run usability research with a foreman who has five minutes between concrete pours, and design a status update they can fire off without taking their gloves off or looking at the screen for more than five seconds?
- How does one design system survive translation across desktop, tablet, mobile, and someday wearables and AR, across English and a regional language?
If those questions make your hands itch, keep reading.
Who we think you are
- 7 to 15+ years designing software, with at least four years in B2B or enterprise.
- Shipped, and ideally led the design of, a data-dense, workflow-heavy product where tables, filters, and edge cases mattered more than animations (schedulers, dashboards, logistics platforms, EHRs, financial tooling, manufacturing software).
- Owned a design system end-to-end: components, tokens, governance, and the politics of getting engineers to actually use it. At Principal level, you've also set the bar others design to, and mentored designers into doing their best work.
- Strong UX instincts backed by real research. You run your own interviews, watch users in their environment, and let the findings change the design, not just the deck. Opinionated but not precious: you can defend a decision and also kill it when the evidence says otherwise.
- Code literacy. You don't have to ship React, but you should know what an SVG-vs-canvas tradeoff means when a chart has thousands of rows.
- Comfortable framing the problem, not just solving the brief. You've turned a vague "fix this workflow" into a multi-quarter bet, and sold it to founders and engineering leads.
- Bonus: you've designed for users who are not at desks: field, factory, warehouse, hospital, anything ruggedised.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Visual Design principles and delivering visually appealing design solutions
- Strong expertise in Design Thinking methodologies to lead ideation and problem-solving processes
- Experience with User Research and UX Research to understand user needs and behaviors effectively
- Proven capabilities in Product Design, including prototyping and wireframing
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within cross-functional teams
- Ability to take ownership of projects and deliver innovative solutions
- Familiarity with tools like Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design software
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field
- Experience in designing for enterprise software or the construction industry is a plus
How to apply
Send a single email to hr@visilean.com with:
A link to your portfolio. (Personal site, Read.cv, Bento, Notion, Figma, PDF; format doesn't matter. The work does.)
- One paragraph answering: "What's a hard product design problem you shipped, and what did you get wrong on the first try?"
- One paragraph answering: "Why VisiLean, and not the dozen other companies hiring senior designers right now?"
No cover letter. Two paragraphs of you actually thinking.
