BrandSafway is a leading provider of specialty services to North America's energy markets. Its extensive portfolio of specialized industrial service offerings includes scaffolding, coatings, insulation, refractory, forming & shoring, cathodic protection, mechanical services and other related crafts. The company also serves the infrastructure and commercial markets throughout North America and in strategic international regions. Brand operates in five key market segments: Upstream/Midstream, Downstream, Power Generation, Industrial and Infrastructure.
Position Summary
The Principal, D&IT PMO runs the governance engine of BrandSafway's federated Project Management Office. Operating from our GBS office in India, this role is the decision authority for how work enters, is classified, and is governed across the D&IT portfolio; the product owner for the monday.com PPM platform; the owner of the PMO's coaching curriculum and standards; and the people manager for the GBS-based junior project management team.
This is not a project delivery role and not a platform administration role. The PMO's senior project managers (onshore) deliver major programs; junior PMs execute platform operations; the helpdesk owns support tickets. The Principal designs, decides, coaches, and leads — and is directly accountable for governance discipline and executive-grade portfolio visibility across the enterprise IT portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Governance & Intake Authority
- Serve as the PMO decision authority for intake triage and classification (Stage Gate, Stage Gate Lite, BAU) through the L0–L4 stage gate model.
- Own the IT PPM Policy (IT-PL-11A) and associated stage-gate process documentation; hold the governance line when stakeholders seek to route around intake or under-classify work.
- Facilitate gate reviews within the daily India–US overlap window; manage RAG escalations, portfolio RAID and Change logs; prepare leadership visibility materials with the Sr. Director.
Platform Product Ownership
- Own monday.com PMO operations as a product: board architecture, workflow and automation design, platform standards, naming conventions, and the platform roadmap.
- Direct, not personally execute, administration operations (user provisioning, license management, board setup) performed by the PMO junior team; maintain documented backup-admin coverage at all times.
- Administer the Amplify platform and own platform adoption, tracking monday.com MAPP data against the ~90% benchmark in support of renewal business cases.
Enablement & Coaching Leadership
- Own the PMO's coaching curriculum, templates, and standards that enable PMs-of-record across D&IT teams to deliver Stage Gate Lite work under PMO governance.
- Run the monthly PM community of practice and weekly office hours; maintain training materials and deliver platform and governance onboarding.
- Partner with onshore senior PMs on coaching assignments and federated PM development.
Team Leadership (GBS)
- Manage the GBS junior project manager team: hiring, 30/60/90 onboarding plans, monthly 1:1s, performance management, and development toward PM-of-record readiness.
- Own the follow-the-sun reporting production line: overnight board hygiene, dashboard and report production, and intake queue preparation, quality-controlled before US consumption.
Extended Responsibilities
- Provide governance and delivery-risk review on vendor SOWs prior to commercial finalization; support AOP, budget, and forecast cycles with portfolio-level data.
- Represent the PMO in steering committees and governance forums as delegated; manage renewals for PMO-owned tooling (monday.com, Miro) with Procurement.
- Participate in performance management, hiring, onboarding, and interview panels for the PMO team.
Explicitly Out of Scope
To protect the seat's focus and the model's resilience, the following are owned elsewhere: the Freshservice support ticket queue (helpdesk); routine platform administration execution (junior PM team, under the Principal's standards); direct delivery of Stage Gate programs (onshore senior PMs); SLT-facing presentation of the portfolio (Sr. Director, briefed by this role).
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive PMO, portfolio governance, or IT project management experience, with 3+ years at a principal or senior lead level.
- 2+ years of people management experience, including hiring, developing, and performance-managing early-career staff.
- Demonstrated product-level ownership of an enterprise PPM platform (monday.com, ServiceNow SPM, Planview, Clarity, or equivalent) — architecture and workflow design, not solely administration.
- Direct experience owning stage-gate or equivalent governance methodologies at enterprise scale, including intake management, RAID/change control, and portfolio reporting.
- Experience exercising governance authority with senior stakeholders across time zones in a distributed or offshore model.
- Experience partnering with Finance on AOP/budget cycles and with Procurement on vendor SOW review.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
- Excellent written communication — a significant share of this role's influence is exercised in writing, asynchronously, for both PM and SLT audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP, PgMP, or SAFe certification; prior monday.com administration experience.
- Experience building or scaling a coaching/enablement program or PM community of practice.
- Experience within a global business services (GBS) or shared-services operating model; familiarity with Freshservice, SharePoint governance, and Miro.
Core Competencies
- Governance enforcement — confidence to push back on misclassification and intake avoidance without damaging relationships, including with stakeholders senior to the role and continents away.
- Systems and product thinking — treats the platform as the PMO's product, with a roadmap, standards, and users — not as a task tracker.
- People leadership — grows early-career PMs into delivery roles through structure and coaching, not oversight alone.
- Asynchronous influence — writes clearly enough that decisions hold without a meeting; runs a disciplined overlap window.
- Tolerance for ambiguity — the PMO is maturing; the role builds what is missing rather than waiting for definition.
What Success Looks Like in the First 12 Months
- Full ownership of intake, classification, and gate facilitation, with documented backup-admin coverage and zero single-person platform dependency.
- Junior PM team hired/onboarded on 30/60/90 plans; follow-the-sun reporting production line operating with US-morning-ready data.
- Federated tier operating: Stage Gate Lite projects running with named, coached PMs-of-record; community of practice and office hours established.
- Platform adoption sustained at the ~90% MAPP benchmark; consistent IT-PL-11A enforcement across all new initiatives.
- Trusted working relationships with D&IT leadership, the onshore senior PM team, and cross-functional partners in Finance and Procurement.
