About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Engineer specializing in Electrical Power Electronics to join our dynamic team at GE Vernova. In this pivotal role, you will drive innovation in electrical systems and grid technologies, contributing to the development of disruptive solutions that support our electrification and renewable energy initiatives. You will collaborate closely with engineering, product, and research teams across GE Vernova’s diverse business units, including Electrification, Renewables, and Power. Your expertise will be instrumental in shaping technology roadmaps, leading early-stage research projects, and fostering strategic partnerships with universities, government agencies, and industry leaders to advance our technological capabilities.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Electronics and a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience, or a master's degree with at least 18 years of experience. Extensive experience in deploying electrical systems within business and production environments, coupled with proven leadership of large teams or projects, is essential. Deep domain expertise in power electronics hardware, simulation, control, protection, and grid-scale applications is required. Candidates should have hands-on experience with hardware development, testing, and validation of high/medium voltage converters, controllers, and related systems, utilizing simulation tools such as PLECS, Matlab/Simulink, and PSCAD. A history of successful research program management, proposal writing, and technology maturation from concept to product is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
As the Principal Engineer for Electrical Power Electronics, your core responsibilities will include collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify technological needs and opportunities within GE Vernova’s portfolio. You will develop and execute comprehensive technology roadmaps, ensuring alignment with strategic business objectives. Leading early-stage research initiatives, you will shape and mature high-disruption potential technologies from initial concept through prototype demonstrations and eventual product integration.
You will coordinate with external partners, including government agencies and industry collaborators, to define strategies that support innovation and commercialization. Building a robust portfolio of research programs, you will oversee the development of high-impact projects that support the company’s electrification and renewable energy goals. Your leadership will ensure the integration of new technologies into long-term multi-generational roadmaps, fostering a culture of continuous innovation.
Additional responsibilities include owning demonstrations of new technologies, driving multi-year strategic plans, and ensuring alignment with safety, quality, and productivity standards. You will provide technical guidance on market trends, competitive landscape, and emerging disruptions, influencing the direction of GE Vernova’s technological advancements. Your role will also involve mentoring junior engineers, facilitating collaboration across teams, and representing GE Vernova at industry conferences and publications.
