About Strake Aero
Strake Aero is a privately owned firm operating across the full aviation stack - aircraft sales, leasing, mission equipment customization, next gen training solutions, and bespoke SaaS.
The SaaS business line—where this role is situated—is building the intelligent software backbone for the global industry. From aircraft acquisition and asset management to safety-critical operational workflows, we are replacing legacy tech with safety-first, data-driven platforms. We are on a mission to deliver world-class software to an industry that is long overdue for a digital transformation.
About the Role
We are looking for a Principal Engineer who embodies the "Master of One, Jack of All Trades" philosophy. At your core, you are a high-caliber builder—someone who takes pride in writing elegant, safety-critical code and architecting systems that scale. You will be the primary technical driver behind our aviation SaaS platforms, owning the development of our products from the initial commit to production.
However, you aren't just an engineer; you are a product-minded strategist. You will serve as the technical anchor for our customers, bridging the gap between sophisticated engineering and real-world aviation operations. This is a role for a senior professional who wants to take full ownership of the technical lifecycle—designing the architecture, shipping the code, and ensuring every deployment delivers undeniable value to the aviation professionals who rely on it.
What You’ll Do
1. Technical Execution & Architecture
- Full-Stack Ownership: Lead the development of our suite of aviation apps using TypeScript (React, NestJS, etc) and Python (FastAPI, Airflow, etc).
- Systems Thinking: Own the DevOps pipeline, security protocols, and cloud infrastructure (GCP/AWS). You’ll ensure our systems are as reliable as the aircraft they help operate.
- AI Integration: Oversee the practical integration of AI to solve aviation problems (e.g., parsing maintenance logs or automating regulatory compliance).
2. Solutions Strategy & Client Engagement
- The Technical Closer: Join the founders in high-stakes meetings to act as the technical authority. You’ll translate client pain points into architectural reality.
- Deployment & Success: Own the "Zero-to-One" deployment for new customers. You’ll lead the requirements gathering, iterative testing, and final rollout within the customer’s ecosystem.
- Product Roadmap: Act as the bridge between the "hangar" and the "code." Use direct customer feedback to influence what we build next.
3. Scaling & Leadership
- Build the Crew: As we scale, Build and grow high-performing teams across development, testing, customer support, and UX/UI.
- Vendor Management: Manage specialized vendor networks for staff augmentation to keep the team agile and focused on core IP.
- Growth & Pipeline: Work closely with the founders to refine our market strategy and drive awareness of our product portfolio. You will develop an opportunity pipeline, pursue leads, and convert them into sales.
What We’re Looking For
- The "Aviation Bug": Prior aviation experience isn't required, but a passion for the industry is. You should be the kind of person who is genuinely excited by aerospace—bonus points if you’ve ever spent time at an airfield or love the smell of Jet A1.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in aviation, computer science or relevant technical background and experience
- You are a seasoned Full-Stack engineer with a 5+ year track record of shipping complex products. You have the technical maturity to lead architectural decisions, optimize database performance, manage containerized deployments, etc., with a focus on stability, scalability and security
- Communication Mastery: You can explain a JWT authentication flow to a developer and a ROI-based value proposition to a CEO without missing a beat.
- Startup Grit: You thrive in the "Zero-to-One" phase. You don't wait for a ticket to be assigned; you find the gap and fill it.
Why Join Us
Competitive Compensation: We offer a salary that is at par with or better than market standards for mid-to-senior leadership positions.
Learn from the best. Our leadership brings deep expertise in flight operations, building safety-critical, enterprise-grade software for aviation. You'll receive genuine mentorship — not just oversight, but the kind of hands-on guidance that accelerates careers.
Shape the stack. Our technology choices are modern but pragmatic, and they will continue to evolve. If you have a well-reasoned opinion about a better way to do something, you'll be heard.
How to Apply
Send us your résumé along with anything that shows us how you think — a GitHub profile, a side project, a blog, a portfolio, or even a short note about something you've built or broken and learned from.
