Role:
We are looking for a Principal Database Architect with proven experience of implementing enterprise grade solutions capable of processing very large volumes of financial data (Time Series, Stock Market domain is a plus).
- The candidate should have implemented database solutions capable of ingesting a high volume of live data (gigabytes per second) with sub-second latency and storing in efficient structures.
- The candidate should have experience implementing 'Real Time Analytics' involving aggregations, summaries, and on-the-fly calculations on live time-series data to support low-latency live dashboards and reports.
- The candidate must have very strong data governance knowledge and have implemented designs that support data lineage.
- The candidate must have implemented parallel data processing to support 100+ concurrent users.
- The candidate must have designed systems capable of scaling from terabytes to petabytes without changing end-user applications.
- The candidate must have implemented solutions involving multiple database technologies and storage solutions to address specific requirements. Should lead a team of junior members for solution implementation.
Key Responsibilities:
§ Architect End-to-End Data Structures and Database Design that support current applications/tools/APIs.
Design and own the overall architecture for an on premise data platform supporting high-volume financial data, including ingestion, storage, processing, and access layers. Understand current software landscape and address limitations in proposed solution.
§ Design High-Throughput Data Ingestion Systems
Build and optimize systems capable of ingesting gigabytes-per-second streaming data with sub-second latency, ensuring reliability, ordering, and fault tolerance
§ Develop Scalable Time-Series Data Architectures
Design efficient storage and retrieval mechanisms for time-series data, leveraging appropriate database technologies
§ Enable Real-Time Analytics & Low-Latency Processing
Architect systems to support real-time analytics, including aggregations, summaries, and on-the-fly computations for live dashboards and reporting.
§ Design Multi-Database Hybrid Architectures
Define and implement solutions using a combination of:
- Relational systems like PostgreSQL / Microsoft SQL Server
- NoSQL and time-series databases: Select the right technology based on workload characteristics.
§ Ensure Data Governance, Lineage, and Auditability
Implement robust frameworks for:
- Data governance
- Data lineage tracking
- Change data management and audit logs
§ Optimize Data Structures for Performance & Scale
Design highly efficient schemas and storage models for:
- Pre-aggregated summaries
- Historical data (multi-decade)
- Minimal redundancy and maximum query performance
§ Support High-Concurrency & Parallel Processing
Architect systems capable of supporting 100+ concurrent users with heavy workloads through:
- Parallel processing
- Workload isolation
- Query optimization
§ Design for Horizontal Scalability & Future Growth
Build systems that scale seamlessly from terabytes to petabytes without impacting end-user applications or requiring major redesigns.
§ Provide Technology & Infrastructure Leadership
Evaluate and recommend:
- Database technologies
- Storage solutions
- Processing frameworks
Define infrastructure sizing, cluster design, and performance tuning strategies.

Experience: 18-25 years (experience in a similar organization necessary)
Education: Masters/ Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a related discipline from a premier academic institution (Bachelor’s degree may be considered for exceptional – in terms of experience & expertise – candidates).
