Role Summary:
We are looking for a Principal Cloud Architect / GCP Platform Led to own the architecture, governance, and delivery leadership for enterprise GCP cost optimization and platform automation initiatives.
The role will define the FinOps operating model, Terraform/IaC standards, ServiceNow-driven provisioning architecture, reusable platform patterns, governance framework, and delivery roadmap. The candidate should be able to guide specialist engineers, work with multiple stakeholders, and deliver measurable improvements in cloud cost, automation, governance, and developer experience.
This is an architecture and leadership role with strong hands-on understanding, not a pure implementation-only role.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Own GCP platform architecture for cost optimization, workload optimization, and platform automation.
2. Define FinOps strategy including tagging taxonomy, budget governance, showback/chargeback, CUD/SUD planning, and cost allocation.
3. Establish Terraform/IaC standards including reusable modules, remote state, naming conventions, project templates, and policy-as-code.
4. Define zero-touch provisioning architecture using ServiceNow, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, approval workflows, and reusable infra templates.
5. Review and govern cost optimization initiatives such as idle resource cleanup, right-sizing, Spot VM usage, storage lifecycle, and BigQuery optimization.
6. Partner with Finance, Security, SRE, Application, DevOps, and ITSM teams for architecture alignment and execution.
7. Provide technical leadership, architecture reviews, design governance, and mentoring to cloud/platform engineers.
8. Own HLDs, LLDs, ADRs, reference architectures, standards, implementation roadmap, and operational documentation.
9. Ensure cloud automation is scalable, secure, auditable, cost-effective, and production-ready.
10. Track measurable outcomes such as cloud savings, tagging compliance, provisioning turnaround time, automation coverage, and governance adoption.
Required Skills:
1. 12+ years of experience in cloud, infrastructure, DevOps, or platform engineering.
2. 7+ years of strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform.
3. Strong GCP architecture knowledge across Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, VPC, Private Service Connect, Cloud SQL, Memorystore, GCS, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Dataflow, Cloud Build, and Artifact Registry.
4. Deep understanding of GCP billing, billing export to BigQuery, labels/tags, CUDs/SUDs, budgets, cost allocation, and slot management.
5. Strong Terraform experience including module design, remote state, workspaces, reusable patterns, Terragrunt, and policy-as-code.
6. Good understanding of ServiceNow-driven provisioning, REST integrations, approval workflows, and ITSM processes.
7. Strong CI/CD knowledge using Cloud Build, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or equivalent.
8. Strong understanding of cloud governance, FinOps, security guardrails, reliability, and operational standards.
9. Good scripting knowledge using Python, Go, or Shell.
10. Strong stakeholder management and technical leadership skills.
Preferred Skills:
1. GCP Professional Cloud Architect certification.
2. GCP Professional DevOps Engineer or Security Engineer certification.
3. FinOps Practitioner certification.
4. Exposure to AWS/Azure.
5. Experience in SaaS, enterprise, HCM, or regulated environments.
6. Experience with MongoDB Atlas, Kafka, Snowflake, or other external managed services.
