The Prince George's County Office of the Sheriff is currently seeking highly qualified applicants to fill a Fugitive Records Manager (Records Manager-A) grade G27 position in the Bureau of Field Operations – Fugitive Operations Unit.
About the PositionThis is responsible supervisory and professional administrative and technical work with the responsibility for the management of the Fugitive Unit within the Office of the Sheriff. The incumbent in this position serves as a manager of clerical support for the Commander, Field Operations Division, Fugitive Unit. Responsibilities include assisting the Commander of Field Operations Division, Fugitive Unit, with the administrative functions of the Division, which include planning, coordinating, records management, and managing administrative and clerical support for the Fugitive Section.

The Prince George's County Office of the Sheriff has been a vital link in the criminal justice system for more than 300 years, providing the citizens of Prince George’s County with professional, transparent, and effective law enforcement service. The Office of the Sheriff serves as the law enforcement arm of the courts, responding to domestic violence calls, processing warrants, civil papers, domestic violence peace and protective orders, Emergency Psychiatric Petition (E.P.S.) orders, and the execution of evictions. The Office of the Sheriff is also responsible for court security, providing security and protection for visitors to our courthouses and securing courtrooms and holding areas. Deputies transport prisoners and are responsible for extraditing fugitives from other states.
Position Duties
ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT
- Maintains a good working knowledge of division/office functions to solve procedural and management problems.
- Establishes and maintains Divisional Administrative filing system.
- Keeps abreast of ongoing Criminal Operation assignments and priorities and notifies Division Commanders of same.
- Maintains an appointment calendar and schedules events accordingly for Division Commanders and Section Supervisor.
- Independently plans, coordinates, and maintains administrative and clerical support for the Criminal Operations Commanders on a continual basis and the Warrants/Fugitive Section as required.
- Leads lower-level clerical employees in work assignments.
EXTRADITION COORDINATION
- Maintains accurate records of all extraditions on a daily and monthly basis.
- Tracks cases through to return of prisoner.
- Notifies the Transportation Section and prepares transport orders for DC and Northern Virginia IAD’s, waivers and individuals paroled to our detainer.
- Prepares trip itinerary, travel vouchers and gun letters as needed. Responsible for obtaining prepared checks for extraditions from the Office of Finance as necessary or required.
- Independently completes extradition package, including itinerary, confirmed reservation and map of area and directions where applicable.
- Maintains a 120-day calendar of all extraditions. Distributes notification of extradition dates and deputies assigned through the appropriate Chain ofCommand.
COMMITMENTS AND DETAINERS
- Checks files and warrant system for requested information.
- Verifies that defendant is incarcerated at a designated institution, if not, locating and placing commitment records, via letter of notification, verbal and faxed copy of commitment to the institution.
- Maintains and monitors daily, monthly and yearly an accurate file of commitments placed until completion of each case.
- Researches to obtain information, analyzes information and assembles data for Criminal Operations Commanders, Lieutenant and Sergeant.
- Researches to obtain information from the Maryland Inter-Agency Law Enforcement System (M.I.L.E.S.) and National Crime Information Center (N.C.I.C.) databases for fugitive cases. Maintains certification for M.I.L.E.S./N.C.I.C. Computer Systems.
ACCREDITATION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains familiarity with all accreditation standards relevant to their component and operational responsibilities within the Office of the Sheriff.
- Ensures accreditation files are established and maintained within their organizational component to capture proof of compliance.
- Keeps the Accreditation Manager apprised of any policy and/or programmatic changes to determine if they meet Accreditation standards.
PERFORMS OTHER RELATED DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in public or business administration or a related field
- Four years of progressively responsible technical experience in several basic phases of records management including the development of improved systems, development of departmental disposition of retention schedules and guidelines for the disposal of the departmental records and files, or an equivalent combination thereof, preferably with a State, Federal or large law enforcement agency.
Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications- Prior public safety and/or government experience.
- NCIC certified.
- Advanced administrative and technical experience managing records and data.
