Title- Pricing Actuary - Contractor
About the Role
The actuarial pricing team within Company is looking to hire a highly motivated actuary to join the team. This role will have responsibility for the following:
· Deliver quarterly profitability reviews that provide portfolio steering insight and underwriting recommendations to our FinPro underwriting leaders
· Support individual deal pricing using exposure and experience rating techniques on large FinPro accounts
· Coordinate the rate monitoring process produced by the costing models and ensure feedback loops back to our profitability and planning analysis
· Work with stakeholders to continue developing best-in-class FinPro rating models and methods by making greater use of our technology, internal data assets and exploring broader datasets
· Develop strategic proposals in collaboration with business owners to mitigate potential profitability gaps
· Enhance profitability analysis using actuarial and data science techniques
· Close collaboration with Reserving, Underwriting, Finance and Claims
· Research analysis into the external market environment including industry trends, market conditions, and rate change
A successful candidate will take ownership of our pricing models and be creative in finding ways to improve them. FinPro Professional Indemnity data is heterogeneous, so the individual should be comfortable working with limited data and be curious to find ways alternative data sources can be incorporated. The role also requires developing strong product knowledge and a willingness to partner with Underwriting/Claims leadership.
About the Team
We are the actuarial team providing support to multiple global Corporate Solutions Financial Products including Construction PI, General PI, Agents, Accountants & Consultants, Lawyers, Cyber and Transactional Liability. Key responsibilities for our team include loss ratio projections, rating plan development, model calibration and actuarial pricing support. We work closely with our business partners and encourage technical innovation that supports traditional methods. The team is a mix of senior expert members and highly motivated newer members who thrive in a dynamic and fast learning environment. This role will report to the Senior Pricing Actuary for FinPro PI within Corporate Solutions and the overall pricing team reports to the Chief Underwriting Officer.
About You
Professional experience:
· A minimum of 3-4 years of experience in P&C Commercial Pricing, experience working with general or financial liability products preferred
· Familiarity with Reserving techniques and can confidently operate between the two views (Reserving and Pricing)
· Obtained or pursuing his/her actuarial qualification
· Can work independently, be accountable and have the skill to prioritise and meet deadlines
· Is agile and comfortable working on different assignments in parallel as well as with dynamic priorities. Strong work ethic, self-starter, and able to execute on tasks
· Strong communication skills and desire to work with actuaries as well as business leaders
Technical skills
· A good understanding of actuarial methods, models and related business processes.
· Programming skills (eg. R, Python, SQL) and knowhow of data science techniques is preferred
· Experience in portfolio profitability analysis, costing models and tool development
