Role Description The Prep and Paint Artist is a full-time, on-site role based at our studio in Kochi. In this position, the artist prepares plates for visual effects work, including roto, clean-up, and basic compositing tasks to ensure shots are ready for downstream departments. Day-to-day responsibilities include creating seamless paint and clean-up work, removing unwanted elements, fixing artifacts, and maintaining continuity across sequences. The artist will collaborate closely with compositors, CG artists, and supervisors to interpret notes, meet quality standards, and deliver work on schedule. The role also involves following established workflows, maintaining version control, and proactively flagging technical or artistic issues.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in prep and paint work, including roto, plate preparation, and clean-up for VFX pipelines.
- Proficiency with industry-standard tools such as Nuke, Photoshop, and other compositing or paint software.
- Solid understanding of VFX workflows, layering, matte creation, and integration with compositing and 3D departments.
- Attention to detail, strong visual judgment, and the ability to match color, grain, and continuity across shots.
- Ability to interpret feedback from supervisors and communicate clearly with cross-functional production teams.
- Capability to work efficiently under deadlines, managing multiple shots while maintaining quality and consistency.
- Relevant diploma or degree in Animation, VFX, Fine Arts, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Previous studio experience in a VFX or animation environment is preferred; a strong demo reel showcasing prep and paint work is highly beneficial.
