Location: Prince of Wales Island, AK (Remote Camp)
Schedule: 12 hours/day, 7 days/week -- 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off
Employment Type: Seasonal, Temporary, Non-Exempt
Pay Range: $17.00 -- $20.00/hour
Benefits: Room and board provided. Transportation to and from site covered by client.
ABOUT THE POSITION
This is a seasonal, temporary position based at a remote exploration camp on Prince of Wales Island, AK. The camp is accessible only by floatplane, helicopter, or boat -- there are no roads in or out. Employees work a 12-hour day shift, 7 days a week, on a 3-weeks-on/3-weeks-off rotation. Room and board are provided at no cost to the employee. Transportation to and from the site is covered by the client. This is a dry camp: alcohol and firearms are not permitted on site. Prescription medications are permitted with appropriate documentation.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Housekeeper/Kitchen Helper is responsible for day-to-day cleaning and upkeep of a remote camp consisting of wall tents and base camp tents, and for assisting the head cook with meal preparation and kitchen operations. Camp facilities include offices, common rooms, a dining room, kitchen areas, bathrooms, and living quarters. The ideal candidate is team-oriented and comfortable with a broad range of tasks in a remote, high-demand setting.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Housekeeping
- Clean common rooms, lounges, corridors, and work areas daily or as needed to meet health and safety standards
- Thoroughly clean and sanitize living quarters at each shift change, including washing linens and sanitizing all hard surfaces
- Clean and sanitize multi-stall showers and restrooms daily
- Ensure laundry is washed, dried, and stored on a daily basis
- Empty wastebaskets and transport trash and recyclables to disposal areas
- Sweep and mop floors; dust and polish furniture and equipment
- Maintain and organize storage areas; replenish supplies such as linens, drinking glasses, and bathroom items
- Wash windows, walls, ceilings, and woodwork as needed
- Disinfect equipment and supplies using germicides or steam sterilizers
- Replace light bulbs and perform minor facility upkeep as needed
- Report damage, theft, or other issues to supervisors
Kitchen Assistance
- Assist the head cook with food preparation, meal service, and maintaining health and sanitation standards
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and silverware; clean kitchen and cooking equipment after every meal
- Sweep and wash the kitchen floor daily; take out kitchen and dining area garbage as needed
- Launder kitchen linens
- May assume cook responsibilities in the absence of the head cook
- Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- Valid Food Handler’s Card
- 1 or more years of prior experience in housekeeping and/or food service
- Knowledge of sanitation requirements in food preparation and storage
- Ability to carry out instructions provided verbally and in writing
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen; subject to scheduled, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion testing throughout employment
- Responsible, organized, self-motivated, and team-oriented
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior camp or remote environment experience
- Knowledge of methods for preparing, cooking, and serving food
- Familiarity with appropriate use and handling of cleaning agents and equipment
