Position Title
Power BI Developer – D365 Finance & Operations (Operational Reporting)
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Power BI Developer to support Operational Reporting for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 FO). The role will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise Power BI reports and dashboards using data originating from D365 FO.
The ideal candidate will have at least 6 years of hands-on Power BI development experience, strong expertise in data modeling and DAX, and experience working with ERP data. Functional knowledge of D365 FO, particularly Order to Cash (OTC) and Record to Report (R2R) processes, is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, test, and deploy Power BI operational reports and dashboards using D365 FO data.
• Work with business stakeholders, Product Owners, and BSAs to understand reporting requirements and translate them into scalable reporting solutions.
• Identify and understand appropriate D365 FO tables, data entities, fields, and relationships required for reporting.
• Develop efficient Power BI semantic models, relationships, calculated columns, measures, and KPIs.
• Create complex DAX calculations to support financial and operational reporting requirements.
• Work with D365 FO data exposed through enterprise data platforms and reporting/data integration solutions.
• Validate report results against D365 FO transactions and source data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and reconciliation.
• Troubleshoot reporting issues including incorrect data derivation, data relationships, refresh failures, and performance issues.
• Optimize Power BI reports and datasets for performance and usability.
• Support unit testing, SIT, UAT, production deployment, and post-production support.
• Maintain technical documentation including report logic, data mappings, source tables/fields, calculations, and dependencies.
• Follow development, security, governance, and change-management standards for enterprise reporting.
Required Qualifications
• 6+ years of hands-on experience as a Power BI Developer.
• Advanced experience with:
• Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service
• DAX
• Data modeling and semantic models
• SQL
• Report performance optimization
• Data visualization and dashboard development
• Strong experience working with ERP or enterprise-scale transactional data.
• Ability to analyze complex data relationships and translate business requirements into reporting solutions.
• Strong troubleshooting and data-validation skills.
• Experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery teams.
Preferred Qualifications
• Hands-on reporting experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 FO).
• Understanding of D365 FO database tables, data entities, and data relationships.
• Functional knowledge of one or more D365 FO business processes, particularly:
• Order to Cash (OTC) – Sales Orders, Customer Invoicing, Accounts Receivable, and related processes.
• Record to Report (R2R) – General Ledger, Journals, Fixed Assets, Intercompany, Financial Close and related processes.
• Experience developing financial and operational reports from D365 FO data.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Azure/Fabric data and analytics technologies is beneficial.
• Understanding of financial data reconciliation and reporting controls is a plus.
