About the Client
An enterprise tax automation platform built on semantic intelligence and knowledge
graph technology. We serve Fortune 500 companies and multinational enterprises with AI-powered
solutions for ASC 740, ASU 2023-09, and Pillar Two GloBE compliance. Our products — DisclosureIQ,
Provision Intelligence, Pillar Two GloBE, and our 1.25M+ definition Tax Knowledge Graph — help
corporate tax departments cut quarterly close time by 60%, eliminate spreadsheet risk, and retain
institutional expertise when people leave.
We were founded by tax professionals from Big 4 and Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE who got tired
of watching brilliant tax knowledge walk out the door every time a senior associate left. We're
building the tools we always wished we had.
About the Role
Excel remains the lingua franca of corporate tax — auditors expect workpapers in it, controllers live
in it, and the most defensible calculations still get tied out in it. We're looking for an Excel and Power
Query expert to build the Excel-based applications that connect our platform to the way tax teams
actually work: audit-ready workpapers, rate-reconciliation templates, provision schedules, and the
data pipelines that feed them.
You will own the Excel side of our product surface — designing, building, and maintaining the
workbooks our Fortune 500 customers and their auditors rely on every quarter.
What You'll Do
- Design and build Excel-based applications for ASC 740 provisions, ASU 2023-09 rate
reconciliations, Pillar Two top-up tax calculations, and SALT apportionment workpapers
- Develop robust Power Query (M) pipelines that ingest trial balances, GL extracts, and
platform outputs, then transform them into reviewer-ready schedules
- Build Power Automate flows to orchestrate the end-to-end workflow — pulling source files,
triggering refreshes, routing approvals, and delivering finished workpapers to the right
hands
- Build dynamic models using advanced Excel — structured tables, dynamic arrays, complex
lookups, PivotTables, and VBA where appropriate
- Translate tax and accounting logic from our knowledge graph into spreadsheet calculations
that are accurate, auditable, and easy to review
- Build validation, tie-out, and exception-flagging layers so every number reconciles and
anomalies surface clearly
- Partner with our tax SMEs (ex-Big 4, ex-ONESOURCE) to gather requirements and iterate
quickly
- Document your work so customers, auditors, and teammates can use and maintain the tools
without you in the room
Must-Have Skills
- Expert-level Excel — advanced formulas, dynamic arrays, structured references, PivotTables,
named ranges, data validation, conditional formatting at scale
- Power Query (M language) — multi-step performant transformations, merging and
appending, parameterization, handling messy real-world data
- Power Automate (and Power Automate flows) — building cloud and desktop flows to
orchestrate data movement, trigger workflows, and connect Excel apps to source systems,
email, SharePoint, and the broader Microsoft 365 stack
- Strong numerical aptitude — comfort with large numeric datasets, reconciliations, and tie-
outs; an instinct for when a number "looks wrong"
- Familiarity with accounting and US corporate tax concepts — debits/credits, trial balances,
journal entries, book-to-tax adjustments; ideally exposure to Form 1120, ASC 740 provisions,
or state income tax
- Attention to detail — corporate tax has zero tolerance for off-by-one errors, and you treat
that as a feature, not a constraint
- Clear written communication — you can document a workbook so the next reviewer
understands it in five minutes
Nice to Have
- Python for small data-processing scripts (pandas, openpyxl, requests) to pre-process source
files or automate handoffs into Excel
- VBA for cases where Power Query and formulas aren't enough
- Hands-on experience with ASC 740, ASU 2023-09 disclosures, or Pillar Two GloBE
calculations
- Experience with US tax software (Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE, CCH Axcess, Corptax,
GoSystem)
- Exposure to Power BI, SQL, or modern data tooling
- Prior work in a tax practice or in-house corporate tax department
Why This Role Is Interesting
- You'll work directly with our founders — a CPA/MBA with 15 years at Deloitte and 5 at
Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE.
Your work ships to Fortune 500 tax departments and gets used in real audits. You're not building generic Excel templates — you're building the bridge between an AI-powered tax knowledge graph and the workpapers that tax professionals actually trust. Fully remote, with meaningful ownership of the apps you build.
