Role Overview
We are looking for a Power Electronics Control Firmware Engineer with 3+ years of hands-on experience in developing and implementing digital control algorithms for power electronic converters.
The engineer will be responsible for taking converter control concepts through the complete development cycle — mathematical/control-system design → simulation → embedded implementation → hardware bring-up → controller tuning → validation.
The role will involve working on advanced power-conversion topologies, including Totem-Pole PFC, LLC Resonant Converters, DAB (Dual Active Bridge), DC-DC converters, bidirectional
converters, battery chargers and renewable-energy converters.
The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of power electronics, digital control theory, real-time embedded systems and MCU-based implementation, along with a hands-on approach to converter hardware bring-up, debugging and control-loop validation.
Key Responsibilities
● Design and develop embedded digital control firmware for power conversion products, including Totem-Pole PFC, LLC, DAB, DC/DC converters, single/three-phase inverters, bidirectional converters, battery chargers and energy-storage systems.
● Develop and implement real-time closed-loop control algorithms for voltage, current, power and DC-link regulation on high-frequency switching power converters.
● Design and implement digital PI/PID/PR controllers, feed-forward, decoupling, current limiting, soft-start, modulation and protection algorithms.
● Collaborate with power electronics, hardware, system and validation engineers to define control requirements, architecture and implementation approaches.
● Develop and validate control algorithms using MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, PSIM or equivalent simulation tools.
● Translate control-system models and algorithms into efficient and deterministic Embedded C/C++ firmware for real-time MCU platforms.
● Configure and optimize ADC, PWM, timers, DMA, interrupts, comparators and other MCU peripherals required for power converter control.
● Perform converter hardware bring-up, closed-loop commissioning, controller tuning and performance optimization.
● Analyse and troubleshoot control-loop stability, sampling and computational delays, ADC/PWM synchronization, noise, saturation, oscillations and abnormal converter behavior.
● Implement firmware-level over-voltage, over-current, under-voltage, over-temperature, short-circuit and other fault-management functions.
● Conduct unit, integration and system-level testing of control firmware and support SIL/HIL and hardware validation activities.
● Use oscilloscopes, power analysers, electronic loads and other laboratory equipment for debugging and validation of converter control performance.
● Participate in code reviews and follow good practices for modular, reusable, maintainable and reliable embedded firmware development.
● Support product certification, validation and production activities by providing required technical inputs, firmware releases and documentation.
● Contribute to development of a common and scalable digital control firmware architecture across different power converter platforms.
● Stay updated with advancements in digital power control, SiC/GaN power conversion,high-frequency switching and embedded control technologies.
What We’re Looking For
● Bachelor's degree (B.E./B.Tech.) or Master's degree (M.E./M.Tech.) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Power Electronics or related discipline with 3+ years of relevant industrial experience in power electronics control firmware development.
● Hands-on experience in embedded digital control algorithm development and implementation for power converters/inverters.
● Strong knowledge and practical experience in closed-loop control of power electronic converters, including voltage, current and power control.
● Experience in designing and implementing PI/PID and digital compensators, including controller discretization, bandwidth selection, stability and sampling-delay considerations.
● Experience with one or more power converter topologies such as Totem-Pole PFC, LLC, DAB, DC/DC converters, inverters or bidirectional converters.
● Strong understanding of PWM modulation, ADC sampling, ADCPWM synchronization and real-time control-loop implementation.
● Hands-on experience with real-time MCU platforms such as TI C2000, Infineon PSoC Control/XMC, STM32 or equivalent.
● Strong understanding of MCU peripherals including ADC, PWM, timers, DMA, interrupts, comparators, GPIO and communication interfaces.
● Experience in control-loop simulation and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) using MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, PSIM or equivalent tools.
● Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) using Typhoon HIL, MATLAB/Simulink or equivalent is desirable.
● Working knowledge of SPI, I2C, UART and CAN communication interfaces and device drivers.
● Experience in board bring-up, peripheral integration, firmware debugging and hardware/firmware interaction.
● Working knowledge of JTAG/SWD debuggers and embedded development environments such as Code Composer Studio or equivalent.
● Strong understanding of power electronics fundamentals, switching converters, control systems and digital control.
● Experience with SiC/GaN-based high-frequency converters is an added advantage.
● Ability to troubleshoot converter behavior using oscilloscope, power analyzer and other laboratory instruments.
● Strong debugging, analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve control, firmware and hardware-related issues.
● Knowledge of software development practices, version control, code reviews and embedded software development processes.
● Ability to work effectively with power electronics, hardware, firmware, system, validation and manufacturing teams.
● Experience in renewable energy, solar inverters, EV chargers, battery chargers, energy storage or power conversion products is an added advantage.
● Ability to provide technical support during product development, hardware bring-up, validation, certification and production.
● Strong willingness to learn and work across the complete development cycle: Power Stage → Control Design → Simulation → Firmware → Hardware Bring-up → Tuning → Validation.
