Position Summary
WSAI, IIT Madras seeks a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Researcher with strong Artificial
Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) expertise to establish advanced AI/ML pipelines
using multimodal biomedical datasets, including physiological signals, medical images, and
videos. The role is intended for candidates who have completed a PhD from a renowned academic
institution and have project experience in machine learning/AI in (biomedical) signal processing
together with radiological image processing.
The selected candidate will contribute to the design, development, validation, and deployment of
scalable AI/ML methods/ for clinically relevant research applications. The position is particularly
suited to applicants with hands-on experience in developing novel AI/ML algorithms in signal
processing and computer visions (including foundations models, Edge AI) and translational
healthcare research.
Key Responsibilities
● Design AI/ML algorithms and implement end-to-end AI/ML pipelines for biomedical
signal, image, and video datasets, including acquisition, preprocessing, annotation support,
training, validation, and performance monitoring within the clinical settings as well as on
Edge devices such as smart phones, tablets, etc.
● Develop and optimize algorithms for ECG signal processing, including denoising,
segmentation, beat detection, rhythm analysis, feature extraction, and predictive modeling.
● Build deep learning workflows for echocardiography and/or radiological imaging
applications, including image classification, segmentation, object detection, temporal
tracking, and video-based interpretation.
● Integrate multimodal datasets such as ECG signals, echocardiographic cine loops, and
radiology images into reproducible analytical frameworks for research and model
development.
● Evaluate model performance using appropriate statistical, clinical, and technical metrics, and
support external validation and robustness testing in the clinical environments both in
hospitals and clinics.
● Collaborate with clinicians, imaging specialists, engineers, and data scientists to align
algorithm development with research and clinical objectives.
● Maintain high standards of data governance, reproducibility, documentation, and code
version control across all pipeline development activities.
● Prepare manuscripts, and support in preparation of technical reports, project documentation,
and grant-supporting research outputs.
● Mentor junior researchers, students, or project staff involved in data annotation, model
development, and validation activities.
What we're looking for
● PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Biomedical Engineering, Computer
Science, Electrical Engineering, Medical Imaging, Data Science, or a closely related
discipline.
● Demonstrated project experience in biomedical signal processing (such as ECG, EEG) and
or radiological image analysis (echocardiography) during PhD, postdoctoral, or equivalent
research work.
● Strong understanding of machine learning and deep learning methods relevant to time-series,
image and video analytics.
● Proficiency in Python and relevant scientific computing and AI/ML libraries such as NumPy,
SciPy, pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, OpenCV, MONAI, or similar
frameworks.
● Experience with data preprocessing, feature engineering, model training, hyperparameter
tuning, and performance evaluation.
● Familiarity with medical data formats and workflows, including DICOM, structured clinical
metadata, and signal file handling.
● Proven ability to work in interdisciplinary research environments and communicate
effectively with both technical and clinical teams.
What we offer
● Work in a highly interdisciplinary environment, with eminent faculty in Data science and
artificial intelligence.
● Duration: As per project or institutional policy, initially for 12 months with possibility of
extension based on performance and funding.
● Access to state-of-the-art high-performance CPU/GPU computing infrastructure.
● Compensation: Competitive salary
