About the Department
The Teaching Lab Assistant provides various clerical and operational support duties in a large Teaching/Learning Lab Center. Responsibilities involve assisting the Testing Specialist in administering and monitoring student tests and providing general office support within the department.
Position Duties
- Maintain files and safeguard academic tests; distribute to students for completion as requested by faculty.
- Check out instructional materials/equipment.
- Maintain lab equipment in operational condition.
- Train for and obtain certifications required by 3rd party testing entities.
- Assist student with operation and duplication of course supplements.
- Provide tutoring assistance as needed.
- Administering and monitoring various placement tests, standardized tests (CLEP, ACT, TEAS, PearsonVue), distance education and make-up test for Polk State courses.
- Supervise tutors and student employees.
- Answer lab telephone, provide information and refer calls as appropriate.
- Assist disabled students and special needs students.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Skills:
- The ability to establish an effective rapport with part-time and full-time faculty.
- Good organizational skills, with special attention to detail.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well with others.
- General office skills.
- Experience with computers, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Good human relations skills.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
Working Conditions/Additional Information- During the first of each semester must be available to work evening hours to start the semester.
- Sometimes it requires coming in in the evenings, early in the mornings, and on Saturdays to start various workshops.
- Must be able to work proficiently in a busy, multi-office work area.
- Must be flexible and able to adapt well to changes.
Salary and Benefits Information- This position is level C13.

Required Education:- Graduation from a standard high school (or equivalent) is required.
Required Experience: - One year of administrative, clerical or student support experience is required.
