About the role

Position Summary

The Innovation Design Intern will support the development of new products from early concept through prototyping and design refinement. This role is intended for recent graduates in Industrial Design or related fields seeking hands-on experience in a collaborative, real-world product development environment.

The intern will contribute to concept ideation, 2D/3D CAD modeling, prototyping, and technical documentation while working closely with designers, engineers, and cross-functional teams. This position offers direct exposure to product development workflows, manufacturing processes, and iterative design practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing conceptual product ideas and translating them into 2D and 3D CAD models
  • Support creation of layout, assembly, and fabrication drawings for prototypes and testing
  • Participate in product development stages from concept exploration to refinement
  • Prepare technical documentation, including drawings, specification sheets, and presentations
  • Assist with prototype fabrication, assembly, and evaluation
  • Conduct market research, including user needs, industry trends, competitive analysis, and identification of potential product opportunities.
  • Conduct design research, including materials, manufacturing methods, and construction techniques.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and purchasing teams
  • Organize and maintain CAD files, documentation, and project records
  • Contribute to internal design reviews and team meetings
  • Support additional tasks related to innovation and product development

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field (recent graduates preferred)
  • Internship or academic experience in product design, CAD modeling, or prototyping is a plus
  • Basic understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and product construction

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in at least one 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or Inventor)
  • Ability to create 2D drawings and 3D models
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Travel

  • Occasional, limited travel to manufacturing facilities or project sites
