Role Description
This is a full-time role for a Plant Head. The Plant Head will oversee plant operations, manage production planning, and ensure the efficiency of production processes. Responsibilities include implementing quality control measures, overseeing budgeting processes, and leading teams to achieve production targets while maintaining safety and compliance standards. The role also involves continuous process improvements to optimize productivity.
Job Description – Plant Head / Production Head
1. Production & Manufacturing Operations
- Lead complete transformer manufacturing operations including:
- CRGO Core Cutting & Stacking
- LV/HV Coil Winding
- Core Coil Assembly (CCA)
- Tanking & Fabrication Coordination
- Ovening, Oil Filling & Final Assembly
- Testing & Dispatch
- Ensure achievement of daily, weekly, and monthly production targets.
- Monitor production efficiency, rejection levels, and machine utilization.
- Ensure adherence to production planning and delivery schedules.
- Implement productivity improvement initiatives across all departments.
2. Plant Administration & Operational Control
- Manage overall plant operations and shop floor discipline.
- Optimize manpower deployment and monitor labor productivity.
- Coordinate with HR, Purchase, Design, Quality, Maintenance, and Stores departments.
- Ensure smooth inter-departmental communication and workflow management.
- Monitor contractor activities and outsourced production processes.
3. Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards:
- IS 2026
- IS 1180
- IEC Standards
- Customer Technical Specifications
- Ensure all routine, type, and special tests are conducted as per standards.
- Monitor internal quality systems and reduce customer complaints/rework.
- Support quality audits and customer inspections.
4. Production Planning & Control
- Prepare and review:
- Production schedules
- Material planning
- Resource allocation plans
- Dispatch schedules
- Coordinate with SCM/Purchase team for timely material availability.
- Monitor bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.
5. Maintenance & Utility Management
- Ensure preventive and breakdown maintenance of:
- Winding Machines
- Oven
- Vacuum Plant
- EOT Cranes
- Testing Equipment
- DG Sets & Utilities
- Minimize machine downtime and improve equipment reliability.
6. Cost Control & Productivity Improvement
- Control manufacturing cost, wastage, and rework.
- Improve:
- Cycle time
- Production efficiency
- Yield percentage
- Material utilization
- Implement Lean Manufacturing / 5S / Kaizen practices.
7. Safety, Environment & Statutory Compliance
- Ensure implementation of:
- Safety standards
- PPE compliance
- Fire & electrical safety
- Factory Act compliance
- Conduct safety audits and training programs.
- Maintain healthy workplace culture and discipline.
8. Team Leadership & Development
- Lead supervisors, engineers, operators, and contractual manpower.
- Conduct performance reviews and skill development initiatives.
- Build accountability and ownership culture in the plant.
- Support succession planning and workforce stability.
Required Technical Knowledge
- Manufacturing of Distribution & Power Transformers up to 20 MVA.
- Knowledge of:
- Transformer assembly processes
- Winding techniques
- Core building
- Testing procedures
- Transformer oil processes
- Understanding of transformer drawings and BOM.
- Knowledge of routine/type testing procedures.
- ERP/MIS reporting knowledge preferred.
Educational Qualification
- B.Tech / BE in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Additional qualification in Operations/Production Management preferred.
Experience
- 12–20 years experience in Transformer Manufacturing Industry.
- Minimum 5 years in leadership role as Plant Head / Production Head.
- Experience in manufacturing transformers up to 20 MVA mandatory.
