Plant Head – Alloy Steel Manufacturing (SMS Background Mandatory)

Nature of Position: Techno-Commercial Leadership Role with overall responsibility for manufacturing excellence, operational profitability, customer satisfaction, cross-functional coordination and long-term business growth.
Plant Head – Alloy Steel Plant
East India Holdings Pvt. Ltd. is a growing alloy steel manufacturer with an integrated steelmaking and rolling facility in Durgapur, West Bengal. We are looking for an experienced Plant Head to lead our manufacturing operations and drive operational excellence, productivity, quality, safety, and profitability.
This is a Techno-Commercial Leadership Role for a professional who has risen through the Steel Melting Shop (SMS) and possesses strong technical expertise along with proven experience in managing large manufacturing teams, driving systems and process improvements and delivering sustainable operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead end-to-end plant operations including Steel Melting Shop (SMS), Continuous Casting Machine (CCM), Rolling Mill, Maintenance, Production Planning, Quality and Dispatch.
• Ensure safe, efficient and profitable plant operations.
• Improve productivity, yield, recovery, power consumption and overall manufacturing cost.
• Drive production planning to achieve delivery commitments while maintaining optimum inventory.
• Ensure consistent production of high-quality alloy steel grades meeting customer specifications.
• Develop strong customer coordination mechanisms to ensure timely resolution of technical issues, enhance customer satisfaction and build long-term customer relationships.
• Lead Continual Improvement Plans (CIP) across all manufacturing processes.
• Monitor and improve KPIs including Yield, Recovery, Productivity, Power Consumption, Downtime, Quality Rejections and Cost per Ton.
• Develop and mentor department heads and build a high-performance manufacturing culture.
• Ensure strict adherence to safety, statutory and environmental compliance.
• Work closely with Commercial, Purchase, Finance, Sales and Supply Chain teams to optimize business performance, profitability, working capital and customer service.
• Drive preventive maintenance and improve equipment reliability.
• Lead troubleshooting during critical production issues and implement long-term corrective actions.
Mandatory Experience
• 20–25+ years in the steel industry.
• Minimum 5 years heading or leading an integrated steel plant or major manufacturing unit. • Minimum 10 years in senior management positions.
• Mandatory background in Steel Melting Shop (SMS).
• Hands-on experience in alloy steel manufacturing is non-negotiable.
• Experience in induction furnace-based alloy steel production is essential.

Rolling Mill
Working knowledge of rolling operations, production planning and downstream quality control will be an added advantage.

Desired Qualifications
B.Tech/B.E. in Metallurgical, Mechanical or Production Engineering. • Metallurgical Engineering background preferred but not mandatory. • MBA or Management qualification will be an added advantage.
