Job Overview 

The Shipping Supervisor role is a hands-on position, responsible for assisting with the management of all aspects of shipping during the peak and non-peak periods in a high volume manufacturing, pick, personalize, pack and ship facility.  S/he will be responsible for supervising all functions of the shipping department; with special focus on ensuring product is appropriately packaged for maximum (WOW) customer satisfaction. Duties include: accurate packaging and on-time shipment of customer orders, while continually maintaining our quality standards and communicating issues to management.  Shipping Supervisor will assist Area Supervisor in optimizing productivity, managing the performance of all employees, making disciplinary and/or promotional recommendations, providing mentorship, training and interacting with each employee on a regular basis. Supervisor must be willing to take part in meeting day-to-day production goals of the facility, including working on the shipping line during non-peak periods, as needed. 

PLEASE NOTE: Candidates must be local to or willing to relocate to the Woodridge area.

What You’ll Do
Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on supervision and assist with the management of the day-to-day activities to include, but not limited to, appropriate staffing.
  • Understand and communicate daily goals
  • Share feedback on shipping issues with the team.
  • With guidance from Area Supervisor, address performance-related issues within the area.  Bring issues related to other areas to the attention of the Area Supervisor and/or Human Resources.
  • Recommend recognition or disciplinary action to Area Supervisor
  • Interface with Production Managers, Production Area Supervisor, Supervisors and Leads
  • Supervise and train the Shipping team to optimize productivity and promote growth.
  • Provide input to performance evaluations

Shipping:

  • Identify gaps and bottlenecks and work with leads and Area Supervisor to resolve.
  • Work with Area Supervisor to plan shipping capacity and staffing levels.
  • With the assistance of Area Supervisor schedule personnel and other resources appropriately to efficiently execute the production plan
  • Ensure packing of completed orders coming off the conveyor line or on carts is as single line/multiple item orders.
  • Ensure shippers are using the correct box size and are protecting items with void fill so that product survives the rigors of transportation to the customer.
  • Ensure packer identifies what inserts go with the package utilizing appropriate inserts shown on the packing slip.
  • Ensures packer label packages, or products, use appropriate labeling tools.
  • Ensures workers scan finished packages using a bar code scanning gun.
  • Ensures operators accurately sort completed pallets among the various shippers such as Amazon, UPS and Next Day Air (NDA).
  • Ensures each packing line has appropriate shipping supplies such as corrugated boxes and tape.


Quality:

  • Ensure all quality control processes are rigorously adhered to and all facility personnel are well-trained in all quality control procedures.
  • Perform visual quality checks throughout the shift to ensure product handling is within specifications.
  • Assist Area Supervisor in planning, preparing and executing high-volume seasonal operations.
  • Work with Area Supervisor to help develop, implement and facilitate processes that focus on achieving measureable improvements to shipping efficiencies, inventory management, quality, fulfillment accuracy and on-time delivery.

Other:

  • Where appropriate, work closely with Warehouse Management Systems team (WMS) in order to understand, maintain knowledge of and help manage the operation and training of WMS.
  • Act as backup to Matching supervisor and perform in role as necessary.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Maintain supplies for the area, notifying the appropriate manager with sufficient lead time to place orders for all necessary supplies.
  • Ensure equipment is operational by calling for repairs and/or evaluating new equipment and techniques
