Company Description Magic Bus India Foundation, founded in 1999 by Matthew Spacie, supports young people to move out of poverty and lead fulfilling lives through education, skills development, and employment opportunities. The organization runs a Childhood to Livelihood programme for adolescents and youth aged 12 to 24, combining life skills, education support, employability training, and job placements. Magic Bus has impacted more than 1 million young people across 24 states and 75 districts in India, supported by 240 Community Learning Centres, 2342 schools, 80 Livelihood Centres, and 8 Entrepreneurship Incubation Centres. Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Placement Officer role based in Chennai. The Placement Officer will build and manage relationships with employers, training partners, and educational institutions to secure job and internship opportunities for youth enrolled in Magic Bus livelihood programmes. Responsibilities include coordinating campus placement activities, matching candidates to suitable roles, organizing recruitment drives, and tracking placement outcomes. The role involves providing career counseling, preparing participants for interviews and workplace readiness, and conducting orientation sessions and training workshops on employability skills. The Placement Officer will also maintain accurate placement records, support post-placement follow-up, and collaborate with programme teams to align placement activities with overall livelihood objectives.
Qualifications
- Experience in campus placement and employer engagement, with the ability to build and sustain partnerships with companies and institutions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with young people from diverse backgrounds.
- Competence in career counseling and guidance, helping youth identify suitable career paths and prepare for recruitment processes.
- Experience in training and facilitation, especially in employability, soft skills, and workplace readiness.
- Background in education, social work, development studies, human resources, or a related field; bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple placement activities, maintain detailed records, and use basic digital tools (MS Office, email, spreadsheets) for reporting.
- Prior experience in the non-profit or skilling sector, especially with youth or underserved communities, is an advantage.
- Fluency in English and local languages used in Chennai, with a commitment to gender-neutral and inclusive practices.
