Help keep Pittsburgh Botanic Garden clean, operational, and guest-ready daily. In this visible yet behind-the-scenes role, you’ll use your attention to detail, problem-solving, and practical maintenance skills to support events, facilities, and enhance the overall guest experience.
What You'll Do
- Serve as the core of our guest experience by maintaining public spaces that are clean, well-stocked, safe, and welcoming, from sunlit atriums to cozy rest areas.
- Perform handyman and facilities tasks, including minor repairs, basic carpentry, fixture replacements, painting touch-ups, and troubleshooting small maintenance problems.
- Assist with Garden events and educational programs by setting up and taking down tables, chairs, tents, and equipment; each day will be unique.
- Assist with grounds maintenance and seasonal tasks, such as clearing leaves, maintaining walkways, removing snow, and keeping outdoor areas safe and accessible.
- Monitor facilities to identify maintenance needs, proactively resolve issues, or report them for further repair.
- Greet colleagues, vendors, and visitors warmly and professionally to foster a welcoming culture of hospitality.
- Assist in organizing storage spaces, upkeep tools and equipment, and guarantee supplies are prepared for daily activities and events.
- Take pride in making the Garden both attractive and practical, whether setting up a classroom, fixing a fixture, or restocking a supply cart.
Requirements
Who You Are
- A team player with a friendly, positive attitude and strong communication skills.
- Hands-on, resourceful, and mechanically skilled, capable of troubleshooting and performing basic repairs independently.
- Reliable and detail-oriented, able to prioritize tasks and adapt to daily changes.
- Able to work indoors and outdoors in any weather, lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and ascend ladders.
- Prior experience in cleaning, facilities support, maintenance, construction, hospitality, or event setup is preferred.
- Able to use basic tools and equipment safely and comfortably.
- Willing to obtain the necessary background clearances, including Child Abuse Clearance, PA State Police Check, and FBI Fingerprint Check.
