As a Software Development Engineer Intern on our backend engineering team, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and build a strong foundation in the full software development lifecycle. You’ll tackle a variety of challenges, with the support and guidance of our experienced engineers, as you contribute to creating innovative solutions that impact thousands of PitchBook customers every day. You’ll collaborate with professionals across the globe, all working towards a shared goal of delighting our customers and driving our business forward. Our Summer Internship is full-time program (40 hours per week) running from June – August 2025 (specific dates vary by office location). Please note, at this time PitchBook does not provide relocation assistance for our internships. Primary Job Responsibilities: Design, develop, and maintain: Work on PitchBook's authentication and identity services components under the guidance of senior engineers. Hands-on development will be a key aspect of your role. Professional development: Set and achieve a personal development goal during your internship, with support from your mentor and team. Code implementation: Write well-designed, testable, and efficient code that meets product requirements. Ensure adherence to coding standards and consider performance, scalability, reliability, and alignment with the organization’s goals. Collaborative development: Work closely with engineers, product managers, and other internal stakeholders in an Agile environment to deliver high-quality solutions. Code reviews: Participate in code reviews to provide and receive constructive feedback, contributing to the team's continuous improvement. Support the vision and values of the company through role modeling and encouraging desired behaviors. Participate in various company initiatives and projects as requested. Required Qualifications: Currently enrolled as a junior in a higher education program (college or university): Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Accounting, Business, and related majors preferred. To be considered for the intern position, applicant must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis upon hire. PitchBook will not consider candidates for this position who require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future (e.g., H-1B status). The company may in its sole discretion extend your contract for a further fixed term period(s) to be agreed by you and the Company. Preferred Qualifications: Programming experience: Proficiency in Java or a similar object-oriented language, with hands-on experience in writing and debugging code. RESTful API knowledge: Understanding of RESTful principles and the ability to design and implement RESTful services. Authentication and identity: Basic knowledge of authentication and identity management frameworks (e.g., OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML) is a plus. Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Problem-solving abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing challenges. Team collaboration: Ability to work effectively within a team, with a willingness to request guidance when needed and contribute to group discussions. Learning mindset: Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and concepts, particularly in the areas of authentication, identity management, and microservices architecture. Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite including in-depth knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Excel with the ability to pick up new systems and software easily.
