Job Summary
The Shop Apprentice role is a hands-on learning opportunity for high school students interested in manufacturing. Under close supervision, apprentices assist in basic shop tasks across departments such as Warehousing, Fabrication, Assembly, and CNC operations. This position focuses on building foundational skills, learning safety practices, and gaining exposure to real-world manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
Learning & Development:
- Participate in on-the-job training and shadow experienced technicians.
- Learn to use basic measuring tools and shop equipment.
- Ask questions and seek feedback to improve skills.
Production Support:
- Assist with simple tasks such as material handling, prepping parts, and organizing tools.
- Follow instructions carefully and complete assigned duties on time.
- Help maintain a clean and organized work area.
Safety & Quality:
- Follow all safety rules and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Pay attention to detail and take pride in doing quality work.
- Report any unsafe conditions or equipment issues to a supervisor.
Teamwork & Communication:
- Work respectfully with team members and supervisors.
- Communicate clearly and ask for help when needed.
- Be open to learning from mistakes and improving.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in high school or a vocational program
- Interest in manufacturing, engineering, or skilled trades
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions
- No prior experience required—just a positive attitude and eagerness to learn!
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and /or walk for the duration of the scheduled shift (at least 10 hours).
- Ability to periodically work overtime to support the cyclical nature of the business (may entail a shift longer than 10 hours).
- Ability to squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, twist, reach, lift. Must be able to push and pull up to 100 lbs. on an occasional basis.
- Must be able to lift and carry objects up to 30 lbs. frequently, up to 50 lbs. occasionally and over 50 lbs. with a two-person lift.
- Exposure to noise and moderate but varying temperatures, humidity and other elements in warehouse environments.
