Founding Engineer

We're hiring a cracked founding engineer to shape the future of AI language learning. You'll help build a product pioneering AI companions and hyper-personalized learning for millions of users. Why Pingo? Pingo AI is an AI language learning app that helps 750,000+ users build fluency through real conversations. Since launching in January 2025, we've grown to millions in ARR with ~70% MoM growth, and are one of YCombinator's fastest growing consumer startups. We just closed a seed round backed by top-tier investors. We believe the future of language learning won't feel like an app or one-off tutors. It will be an AI you have a relationship with. One that knows your progress, understands your goals, and delivers learning that feels natural. Building this means solving difficult product + engineering challenges at scale. What You'll Do: In one sentence: Do all it takes to build Pingo into the default way to learn languages. Own lesson experience, memory/long-form context, and personalized learning journeys. Relentlessly iterate on retention and engagement — every feature you ship will directly impact how long people stay on Pingo. Build systems to track + improve product and AI performance across millions of daily learning interactions. Track, diagnose, and resolve stability issues at scale (99.9% uptime goal). Optimize real-time AI pipelines for sub-1s p95 response times. What we're looking for: Comfortable building and shipping across React Native (iOS/Android), Node.js/Express, Supabase. Experience working with AI models. Writes clean, maintainable code and sets a high engineering bar; nothing ships broken. Strong product sense — makes well-reasoned decisions and builds features that feel instant and magical. Detail-oriented & obsessed with learning experience – you deeply care about stability, polish, and real learning impact.
