Environmental Intern

Location: Public Works Complex, Clearwater, FL

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4 pm, up to 24 hours a week for an 12 week commitment

Pinellas County Public Works, Division of Environmental Management is seeking two motivated Environmental Management Interns to support its Water and Navigation Section. The interns will gain hands-on experience in environmental field inspections methods, and an understanding of environmental regulations pertaining to dock, dredge and fill, and mangrove trimming permit applications. Responsibilities will include assisting staff in the documentation of field conditions, assessing natural resources, and the compilation of reports following field inspections.

What Would You Do?

  • Inspect sites for dock and dredge and fill or mangrove trimming permit applications, accurately documenting site conditions and assess any natural resources present.
  • Compile field notes into accurate and detailed post-inspection field reports. 
  • Learn about local and state/federal rules and regulations that govern dock, dredge and fill and mangrove trimming permitting.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned. 

     

     

What Do You Need To Have?

  • Be at least 18 years of age or older able to speak, write, and comprehend the English language. 
  • Enrolled in or recent graduate of college/university in Environmental Science, Biology or other natural sciences program.
  • Ability to snorkel. Proficient swimmer is a must.

     

     

Highly Desirable

  • Familiarity with marine resources such as seagrass, corals and mangroves. 
  • Detail oriented, and ability to organize and comprehend new information, training, and on-the-job related practices
