Position Title: Peer Mentor: First Year Experience (FYE) 2026 - Temporary, Part-Time

Pima Community College’s First Year Experience (FYE) program connects students within their first 30 credits with college-wide campus & online resources, programs and specifically designed events that build interpersonal relationships and leadership skills for continued academic, professional and civic success. FYE Peer Mentors will be responsible with assisting during Connect U orientation sessions across the College and supporting other FYE programming college-wide, on-campus and online, AND expected to complete training prior to each semester cycle. In order to be eligible for this position, FYE Peer Mentors are required to be actively enrolled students at Pima Community College during the time of employment.
FYE Peer Mentors are current Pima students who introduce new students to the college through the 7 initiatives under the FYE umbrella, including, but not limited to, Connect U Orientation (CUO). The Connect U Orientation program is offered year-round online through D2L, and has live sessions (on campus) July - August, December - January and May - June, consisting of tours and activities orienting new students to Pima.
The work schedule for this position may include evenings, weekends, and work at multiple campus locations, as needed.
About Temporary Employment:
This position has 4 vacant positions and will establish a qualified applicant pool for part-time temporary positions. Applications will remain active for 6 months to a year and selected candidates may be contacted as positions become available or when immediate staffing needs arise. Placement in the pool does not guarantee employment. The applicant pool will be refreshed annually.
Temporary applicants may be hired for specific assignments or placed in an applicant pool for future opportunities, depending on enrollment levels and business needs. If selected from this pool of applicants, candidates contacted will receive details regarding the specific assignment and will have the opportunity to confirm interest and availability.
We are seeking dedicated part-time temporary employees to join our qualified applicant pool. Selected candidates will be considered for placement as positions become available or when immediate staffing needs arise.
Part-time temporary roles offer flexible scheduling and the opportunity to support a diverse population of students in achieving their educational goals.
Position Duties
FYE Peer Mentors will assist with the implementation of FYE programming on-campus and online, which may include but is not limited to:
Contact students to register, confirm and/or reschedule participation in a Connect U Orientation session
Provide check-in and registration at each Connect U Orientation
Lead a small group of new students in discussions and icebreakers
Provide tours of the PCC campuses
Help students navigate their first steps in preparing for college, including answering questions about resources and the student experience at Pima
Assist students in setting up various digital resources like MyPima, D2L, etc.
Develop content for online engagement through FYE’s social media accounts
Respond to questions as a team submitted to the collaborative email setup for CUO Mentors
Support the 6 other initiatives under the FYE Program Umbrella: New Student Welcome, Career Cafe, Popcorn with a Program, Adulting Series, Faces of First Year, and the Duck Hunt
Collaborate with teammates (FYE Peer Mentors), faculty and staff volunteers and subject matter experts to achieve FYE programming goals
Leadership and Civic Engagement
Assist in the planning and implementation of co-curricular events and initiatives on campus and online
Assist in developing and facilitating leadership training opportunities for new students
Assist with the assessment and evaluation of the co-curricular programming at Pima
General Office Duties
Perform various fundamental office support duties to include:
Answering phones & making professional calls on behalf of Pima
Database entry
Sending emails
Greeting students
Handing out information to students
Inventory stocking and oversight
Communications & Social Media management
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED)
Registered for at least 6 credits at PCC the prior semester
Register for at least 6 credits in the upcoming semester
Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
Have no Student Code of Conduct violations
