About the role

Position Summary:

 

The Shop Mechanic for Power Contracting is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a fleet of construction vehicles and heavy equipment used in power and utility construction operations. This position supports field crews by ensuring all vehicles and equipment are safe, reliable, and compliant with DOT, OSHA, and company standards. Work is performed primarily at active job sites, with significant travel throughout the assigned region and occasional storm response support. This role is located in Humble, TX 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on company vehicles and equipment, including pickup trucks, medium- and heavy-duty trucks, bucket trucks, and related construction machinery.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and engine-related issues using appropriate diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain aerial lift systems, booms, outriggers, and related components.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance (PM) services to reduce downtime and extend the life of fleet assets.
  • Respond to field service calls and perform on-site repairs in a timely and safe manner.
  • Travel with storm crews as needed to support emergency restoration work.
  • Ensure all vehicles and equipment meet applicable DOT, OSHA, manufacturer, and company safety standards.
  • Complete and maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and work orders.
  • Coordinate with operations, field supervision, and fleet management to prioritize repairs and minimize equipment downtime.
  • Manage parts inventory, identify parts needs, and communicate requirements promptly.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in both shop and field settings.
  • Conduct all work professionally while representing Power Contracting positively in diverse work environments.

     

     

     

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required.

  • Technical or trade school certification in diesel, automotive, or heavy equipment technology preferred.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience working on commercial vehicles and/or heavy equipment.

  • Strong experience with diesel and gasoline engines, braking systems, electrical systems, and diagnostics required.

  • Experience with hydraulic systems and aerial equipment (bucket trucks) strongly preferred.

 

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.

 

Technical Competencies:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose complex equipment issues.

  • Working knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems used in utility and construction equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and technical documentation.

  • Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently in the field.
