Senior Optics and Photonics Engineer

Picarro is seeking an experienced Senior Optics and Photonics Engineer to join our research and development team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing advanced optical and photonic systems for our next-generation analytical instruments. This includes designing optical components, assemblies, and systems; optimizing optical performance; and ensuring robust, reliable, and cost-effective designs. You will work closely with our cross-functional team of scientists, engineers, and technicians to bring innovative products to market. Key responsibilities include: - Design and develop high-performance optical and photonic systems, including lasers, detectors, filters, and related components - Analyze and optimize optical system performance through modeling, simulation, and experimental testing - Develop and implement optical alignment, calibration, and testing procedures - Collaborate with the broader engineering team to ensure seamless integration of optical subsystems into the overall instrument design - Document and communicate design specifications, analyses, and test results - Provide technical leadership and mentor junior team members - Stay current with the latest trends and innovations in optics and photonics Qualifications: - PhD or MS in Optics, Photonics, Applied Physics, or a related engineering discipline - 5+ years of experience in the design and development of advanced optical and photonic systems - Proficient in optical system design, modeling, and analysis using tools like Zemax, COMSOL, or similar - Hands-on experience with optical component selection, procurement, assembly, and testing - Strong background in laser, detector, and optical filter technologies - Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills - Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment - Familiarity with analytical instrumentation, spectroscopy, or gas sensing technologies is a plus
