Festivals From India is hiring on behalf of their client, Chennai Photo Biennale, for a Darkroom Digitisation Technician. The ideal candidate will manage the scanning and digital workflow within the lab — ensuring that film is digitised accurately, consistently, and delivered on time. This is a hands-on, detail-oriented role that requires focus, technical understanding, and the ability to maintain quality across repetitive processes.
Please note:
- The vetting process for this role comprises 2-3 rounds of interviews and may be followed by a brief assignment.

- This is an on-site, full-time position based in Chennai.
- Salary band for this role is available upon request.
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Photography, Visual Arts, Media, or a related field
Essential Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience • Proficiency in Lightroom and/or Photoshop.
- Solid understanding of exposure, colour, and image quality.
- Working knowledge of film photography and digitisation processes
- Comfortable working in a hands-on lab environment.
- Preferred experience in archival digitisation, darkroom or film photography.
- Basic video shooting/documentation skills.

Key Roles/Responsibilities:
Film Digitisation & Workflow
- Log all development jobs accurately with relevant details (film type, customer, timelines)
- Scan film using DSLR setups, Epson flatbeds, and Plustek scanners
- Maintain an organised workflow across incoming and outgoing film
- Ensure timely turnaround of all scanning jobs
Colour & Delivery
- Perform colour correction and tonal adjustments using Lightroom/Photoshop
- Prepare files for delivery with proper naming and structure
- Deliver final outputs along with development notes.
Film Handling
- Cut and sleeve negatives with care and consistency
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation in handling film materials
Printing & Output
- Handle digital negative printing
- Execute non-archival photo printing
- Maintain consistency and quality across outputs
Camera & Content Support
- Assist in photographing cameras for online listings
- Support video shooting and documentation when required
Archival Projects
- Assist in archival digitisation projects, including organisation, scanning, and delivery
- Follow structured workflows for large-scale projects.
Equipment Maintenance
- Maintain and service scanning and printing equipment
- Ensure calibration, cleanliness, and consistent performance.
Workshops & Customer Support
- Assist in workshops and training sessions
- Support customer queries across CPB channels when required
- Handle occasional walk-in interactions related to digitisation
