Primary Function
The Senior Training Instructor provides instructional leadership for the Train & Earn (T&E) Program, with responsibility for curriculum design, implementation, and instructional coordination across multiple workforce sectors. In addition to direct classroom instruction, this role oversees curriculum alignment with DYCD contract requirements, coordinates Testing of Adult Basic Education (TABE) administration, and works closely with internal staff and external partners to ensure high-quality, compliant, and outcomes-driven training delivery for out-of-school, out-of-work (OSOW) young adults.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction & Training Delivery
• Deliver high-quality instruction focused on essential life skills, work readiness, literacy development, and occupational/technical skills for OSOW young adults.
• Facilitate workshops in:
o Workforce readiness skills, including experiential learning opportunities, entrepreneurial basics, and interpersonal skills essential for employment
o Financial literacy (budgeting, savings, credit, financial aid, debt management)
• Model effective instructional strategies and trauma-informed, youth-centered pedagogy.
Curriculum Design & Instructional Oversight
• Lead the design, development, and implementation of all Train & Earn curricula, ensuring alignment with:
o DYCD contract deliverables and performance metrics
o Workforce sectoral standards and employer expectations
o Educational best practices for young adult learners
• Regularly review and update curricula based on participant outcomes, labor market trends, and partner feedback.
• Support instructional planning across workforce sectors to ensure coverage and quality of instruction.
Workforce & Staff Coordination
• Prioritize and coordinate planning with workforce sectoral staff to support instructional needs across program components.
• Assign and coordinate internal instructional support staff in alignment with enrollment, scheduling, and participant needs.
• Provide coaching, guidance, and instructional support to instructors and facilitators as needed.
TABE Testing Coordination
• Coordinate TABE testing schedules for young adult participants.
• Assign and manage internal staff to support TABE test administration, proctoring, and logistics.
• Ensure timely data collection, documentation, and reporting related to TABE assessments.
External Partnerships & Site Coordination
• Work directly with external partners to:
o Schedule instructional activities
o Secure and manage onsite and offsite classroom and training space
o Coordinate access, logistics, and instructional timelines
• Serve as a key liaison to ensure partner sites meet programmatic and instructional needs.
Compliance, Data & Program Support
• Ensure all instructional activities support fulfillment of DYCD contract requirements and benchmarks.
• Maintain accurate instructional records, attendance, and required documentation.
• Support program monitoring, audits, and reporting related to instruction, assessments, and curriculum delivery.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) in Education, Workforce Development, Healthcare, or a related field required.
• Demonstrated experience delivering occupational and life skills training to OSOW youth or young adults.
• Proven experience in curriculum design, instructional planning, or instructional leadership.
• Familiarity with employer-endorsed workforce standards, particularly within healthcare or other high-growth sectors.
• Experience coordinating testing, scheduling, or instructional logistics in a workforce or educational setting.
Preferred Skills & Competencies
• Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple instructional priorities.
• Experience working with external partners, vendors, or training sites.
• Knowledge of DYCD-funded programs, performance deliverables, and compliance requirements.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Commitment to youth development, equity, and workforce advancement.
Work Environment & Expectations
• Position requires flexibility to occasionally work across multiple sites (onsite and offsite).
• Occasional evenings may be required based on program schedules.
• Role combines direct instruction with administrative, coordination, and leadership responsibilities.
