Role Description The PhD Scholar in Geotechnical/GeoEnvironmental Engineering will conduct original research under faculty supervision, including developing research proposals, designing experiments, and analyzing data related to soil behavior, ground improvement, environmental geotechnics, and sustainable infrastructure. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing laboratory and field investigations, reviewing scientific literature, preparing research reports and manuscripts, and contributing to funded research projects. The scholar will also support teaching activities such as assisting in tutorials or labs, mentoring undergraduate or master’s students, and presenting research at seminars and conferences. This is a full-time, on-site role based at SRM University-AP in Amaravati, requiring regular presence on campus and active participation in departmental and university academic activities.
Qualifications
- Strong academic background in Civil Engineering with specialization or interest in Geotechnical and/or GeoEnvironmental Engineering (M.Tech/MS/M.E. or equivalent preferred).
- Competence in geotechnical and geoenvironmental analysis, including soil mechanics, foundation engineering, contaminant transport, and ground improvement techniques.
- Experience or aptitude in experimental methods, such as geotechnical laboratory testing, instrument handling, field investigations, and data collection.
- Ability to use analytical and computational tools, including numerical modeling, statistical analysis, and relevant engineering software (e.g., PLAXIS, GEO5, or similar).
- Demonstrated research skills, including literature review, problem formulation, research design, and scientific writing for reports and publications.
- Effective written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present research clearly to academic and professional audiences.
- Capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment, with strong time management and organizational abilities.
- Motivation to pursue high-quality research leading to peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and impactful contributions to geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering.
