Fully funded PhD Position available at the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Mahindra University, Hyderabad
Are you interested in solving fundamental problems in fluid mechanics using high-fidelity simulations and modern computational tools? I am seeking a highly motivated Ph.D. scholar to join my research group for the Spring 2026 intake.
The research will focus on developing and deploying high-order, high-resolution computational frameworks to study multiscale transport phenomena, including double-diffusive convection (salt-finger instability), turbulence, and geophysical flows.
This work goes beyond standard CFD practice. The candidate will engage in Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) and Large Eddy Simulation (LES) of complex flows, combined with rigorous numerical analysis and data-driven modeling.
Key Research Thrusts
➡ Development of high-order numerical schemes
➡ DNS and LES of buoyancy-driven and stratified turbulent flows
➡ Turbulence dynamics in geophysical and environmental flows
➡ AI/ML for reduced-order modeling, closure modeling, and flow prediction
➡ High-performance computing: parallel algorithms (MPI/OpenMP), scalability, and performance optimization
➡ Multiphysics and multiphase flow simulations
Why Join?
✔ ANRF-Funded Project: Opportunity to work on a sponsored research project supported by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF)
✔ High-Fidelity Research: Hands-on experience with DNS/LES of complex flows
✔ Numerical Rigor: Work on state-of-the-art high-order methods
✔ HPC-Driven Environment: Development and deployment of scalable CFD solvers on modern computing architectures
✔ Data-Driven Fluid Mechanics: Integration of AI/ML with physics-based modeling
✔ Publication-Oriented: Strong emphasis on high-impact journal publications
Financial Support: INR 30,000/- per month assistantship (plus Free Boarding & Lodging)
Eligibility
- Master’s degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related disciplines
- Strong foundation in fluid mechanics, turbulence, and numerical methods
- Experience with CFD and programming (Fortran/C/C++) and/or Python)
- Exposure to CFD, scientific computing, or HPC is expected
- Exposure to AI/ML tools is a plus
