About the Department
Position Objective: The role of the Planning Intern is to work closely with the public on a regular basis to provide customer service on planning issues.
Position Duties
Essential Functions:
- Reviews building permits and zoning permit applications to assure compliance with zoning ordinance requirements.
- Prepares narrative staff reports and recommendations of limited complexity, such as conditional use permits.
- Provides technical assistance and information to staff and the public in the administration of specific planning program areas or ordinances.
- Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Maintain compliance with all County policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Experience Required:
- Associate’s degree or one year of progressively responsible experience.
- Experience in planning, geographical information systems, geography, surveying, or other related fields is preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements:- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards.
- This position frequently remains stationary for long periods of time and needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copy machine and printer.
- Must be able to move up to 20 pounds unassisted, and move 40 pounds with assistance.
Other Qualifications
Working Environment:
- Work is performed mostly indoors in an office where noise and interruptions often occur.
- Occasional outdoor work will be required where the employee is exposed to weather conditions.
- Overtime hours may be required to meet project deadlines.
- Some travel may be required for training and meetings.
- Safe use of mobile devices in the field is required.
- Occasionally work in hazardous locations.
