POSITION: Municipal Electrification Program Internship

Approximately 3 months duration

Open to Undergraduate ($25/hour) and Graduate students ($35/hour)


Peninsula Clean Energy has an Summer Internship opportunity, from June-September 2025 (exact dates in development).

Requires CA residency and primary place of work to be within 100 miles of Redwood City, CA. Peninsula Clean Energy is a remote-first work environment. Location in either Los Banos, San Mateo County, Bay Area, or Tahoe-Truckee Area is preferred in order to coordinate occasional in-person meetings with PCE Building Electrification Programs staff.


Project Overview:

Peninsula Clean Energy seeks to reduce carbon emissions across 250,000 within our service territory through encouragement of building electrification. In 2024, Peninsula Clean Energy launched our Government Building Electrification (GovBE) Program. The program offers incentives and financing for local government agencies planning to electrify their building stock and reduce fossil gas use. The program offers $1 million per year in incentives, and manages a $15 million revolving loan fund.


The Municipal Electrification Program Intern will be responsible for managing the launch of the program and selection of award recipients for the 2025 program cycle. Additional responsibilities will include assisting with management of the Schools Building Electrification Program (SchoolsBE.) This will be the first year that Peninsula Clean Energy will include school electrification in the program.


The intern will be reviewing project submissions, analyzing potential greenhouse gas emissions and methane gas reduction, managing the selection committee, and assisting with selection of projects for award.


Required Skills

  • Basic Microsoft Office Suite ability – Excel, Word, etc.
  • Critical reading and writing skills
  • Familiarity with building systems and energy concepts
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work independently
  • Innate curiosity and ability to learn on the job
  • Passion for reducing fossil fuel use and carbon emissions
