Job Description
Role Title: PCB Test Engineer — ATE & TPS Development
Domain: Defence Avionics | Automated Test Equipment
Experience: 5–12 years
Location: Pune
You will work on one of the most technically demanding challenges in defence electronics maintenance — reverse-engineering undocumented, black-box PCBs from Indian Air Force platforms and building the test infrastructure needed to diagnose and repair them independently of OEM support.
This is not a production test role. You will be reconstructing electrical models from physical boards, authoring Test Procedure Suites (TPS) from scratch, and running structured fault isolation tests on CAT D (faulty) avionics PCBs.
Your work directly reduces India's dependence on foreign OEMs for critical aircraft system repairs.
What You Will Do
Study and reverse-engineer PCBs received without gerber files, netlists, or electrical diagrams
Reconstruct component lists, net connectivity, and schematic-level understanding through physical probing
and analysis
Design and execute In-Circuit Functional Tests (ICFT), Out-of-Circuit Functional Tests (OCFT), Edge
connector tests, and JTAG/Boundary Scan tests
Perform Functional Probe Testing (FPT) manually where automated coverage is insufficient
Author complete Test Procedure Suites (TPS) that can be repeatably executed by test operators
Identify faulty clusters and components on PCBs and validate repair outcomes
Work with the ATE platform to develop, debug, and refine test programs
Maintain test documentation to defence-grade standards
What We Are Looking For
Must Have
Degree in Electronics / Electrical / Instrumentation Engineering
Hands-on experience with PCB-level fault diagnosis and repair — not just system-level
Working knowledge of at least two of: JTAG/Boundary Scan, ICFT, OCFT, in-circuit testing methodology
Ability to read and interpret schematics and PCB layouts; experience reconstructing these from physical
boards is a strong plus
Familiarity with ATE platforms (any — BEL-built, NI/LabVIEW-based, Keysight, or custom)
Understanding of digital, analog, and mixed-signal circuit behaviour under fault conditions
Good to Have
Prior experience in depot-level or base-level avionics PCB maintenance (HAL, BEL, IAF EME, DRDO)
Exposure to MIL-STD test documentation practices
Experience with JTAG tools (XJTAG, Goepel, Boundary Scan Hub)
Knowledge of IPC-A-610 or similar workmanship standards
Mindset
Comfortable working with incomplete information — you will rarely have full documentation
Methodical and patient; fault isolation on complex boards requires structured thinking
Takes ownership of outcomes, not just process steps
What We Offer
Work on active IAF platforms — your output has direct operational impact
A technically deep, small team environment with no bureaucratic overhead
[Compensation band — be explicit here, as discussed earlier]
Long-term programme with a growing client base across defence services
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering
