Job Title: PCB Layout Engineer – ATE Design & Development

Location: Bangalore, India

Experience: 4–5 Years

Position Level: Senior Engineer

Job Type: Full-time

Role Summary

The PCB Layout Engineer for ATE (Automated Test Equipment) development is responsible for schematics creation, Library creation & management, placement & routing, creating optimised PCB stack, Signal integrity, meeting EMI/EMC needs, simulating, and implementing complex, multi-layer, high-density test interface boards used in factory production lines to validate PCBA functionality. This role bridges hardware design and manufacturing, focusing on designing robust test fixtures that ensure high signal integrity, power integrity, and compliance with Design for Testability (DFT) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) guidelines. The engineer will work directly on translating schematics into layout, generating manufacturing data, and supporting on-site validation of PCBA in the factory.

Key Responsibilities

  • ATE Hardware Design: Design complex, high-density multilayer PCB layouts for test fixtures, including Load Boards, DUT (Device Under Test) boards, and Probe Cards.
  • Schematic to Layout Conversion: Convert complex electrical schematics into functional, manufacturable PCB layouts, ensuring compliance with strict mechanical and electrical constraints.
  • Signal & Power Integrity (SI/PI): Optimize PCB layout for high-speed, RF, and mixed-signal circuits. Perform impedance control, stackup planning, and decoupling capacitor placement to ensure superior signal/power integrity.
  • Factory Validation: Support the bring-up, debugging, and validation of ATE PCBs in the factory environment to ensure PCBA performance and reliability.
  • DFM/DFT Implementation: Apply rigorous Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Testability (DFT) principles to reduce test failures and improve production yield.
  • Documentation & Gerbers: Generate detailed fabrication drawings, Gerber files (artwork), drill files, and pick-and-place data. Manage Bills of Materials (BOM).
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with hardware engineers, product engineers, and manufacturing teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to PCB design, fabrication, and assembly.

Work Experience

  • Education: B.E./B.Tech / Diploma in Electrical/Electronics Engineering.
  • Experience: 4–5 years of hands-on experience in PCB design and layout, specifically with ATE/test fixtures.
  • Software Proficiency: Expert proficiency in Altium Designer or Cadence Allegro (17.2 or higher).
  • Technical Expertise:
  • Strong knowledge of multilayer board design, high-speed digital, and RF routing.
  • Understanding of IPC standards and manufacturing tolerances.
  • Familiarity with ATE platforms (e.g., Advantest 93K, Teradyne UFLEX) is highly desirable.
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced factory environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with thermal analysis , signal integrity and 3D modeling tools.
  • IPC Designers Council Certification (C.I.D.)
