The Payments Specialist will be supporting accurate and timely completion of payments activities and maintaining records for the company. This will include, but not limited to, processing and managing payments. You are expected to have sufficient knowledge of associated regulations and internal controls to complete these activities.
You will report directly to the Payments Team Lead and work closely with the payments team to ensure accurate and timely delivery of payments activities towards third party suppliers/vendors and employees for T&E requests.

Key Responsibilities
Job Overview
- Perform payments activities in line with defined processes
- Validate and process prepayments and direct debits.
- Generate payment proposals in a timely manner.
- Process electronic payments and liaise with banks to resolve or adjust failed payments.
- Send system‑generated electronic remittance advices and issue cheques to vendors/suppliers.
- Assist with validating rush payment approvals in accordance with applicable policies and process rush payments.
- Support the accounts payable reconciliation process as required.
- Assist Senior Payments Specialists in resolving and processing payment exceptions, including ERP‑related issues.
- Escalate issues or queries requiring judgement and expertise to the Payments Team Lead or Senior Payments Specialist.
- Support the Payments Team Lead and Senior Payments Specialists with information required to respond to vendor/supplier and employee T&E queries.
- Ensure compliance with payments‑related policies and controls
- Execute prescribed payment activities within defined payment policies and ensure adherence for all transactions
- Ensure payment activities before and duri.ng period‑end close align with the fiscal close calendar, allowing sufficient time for collaboration with impacted teams.
- Ensure all procure‑to‑pay (P2P) controls are followed and appropriately documented.
- Apply subject‑matter knowledge to accurately record payment activities and maintain supporting documentation.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and cross‑functional stakeholders
- Build credibility and strong working relationships within the payments team and across other functions.
- Collaborate with the Master Data team on required data points, standards, best practices, and data‑related issues.
- Partner with other Shared Services Centre (SSC) process delivery teams to exchange information and support process improvements where dependencies exist.
Skills & Experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Procure‑to‑Pay (P2P) payments operations
- Strong proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, with demonstrated ability to interpret vendor/supplier and financial data
- Basic understanding of finance business processes, payment policies, treatment strategies, and statutory accounting principles to support compliant Shared Services Centre (SSC) operations
- Foundational knowledge of core finance systems, ERP platforms, and related functional systems, frameworks, and capabilities
- Ability to perform payment‑related tasks independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to apply concepts, methods, and terminology associated with generally accepted accounting practices to new or ambiguous situations
- Strong stakeholder interaction skills, ensuring high‑quality service delivery while effectively managing expectations and outcomes
- Ability to operate in a fast‑paced environment with a proactive mindset, working against tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality
Preferred / Beneficial Qualifications
- Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics
- Proficiency in languages other than English
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related business discipline
