SUMMARY
Drives diesel powered tractor trailer combination to transport construction equipment and supplies by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Performs Pre-Trip Inspection
Checks vehicle to ensure it is safe to operate.
Checks tires, headlights, marker lights, stop lights and turn signals.
Checks engine oil, power steering fluid, coolant level, fan belts and windshield wipers.
Operation of Vehicle
Operates vehicle in a safe and professional manner regardless of location, speed limit, and traffic.
Obeys State and Federal trucking laws.
Exhibits "defensive" driving skills.
Obeys weight limit when loading truck.
Keeps floor boards, stepping areas, and hand holds free of trash, grease, rags or other obstructions that hinder operation.
Monitors dash gauges (Oil, Temperature, Air, Tachometer, Speedometer, Amperage and Pyrometer.)
Monitors conditions to the sides and rear of vehicle by means of the rear-view mirrors and spot mirrors.
Operates controls to raise, lower, detach, and attach float bed.
Submits daily logs that comply with Company, State and Federal Regulations.
Equipment Transport
Starts equipment; operates controls to lift buckets, attachments, or machine parts; drives equipment onto float bed; lowers attachments, etc.; applies parking brake; secures equipment with chains and binders. Reverses procedure to unload equipment.
Post Trip Inspection
Inspects vehicle for defects and notifies management of said defects on Driver Daily Report.
Does not drive vehicle with known defect that could cause injury or property damage.
Note: The Lowboy Driver position requires an extreme amount of body movement and some manual labor including but not limited to:
Leg Movement: Engaging /disengaging clutch, depressing brake pedal and accelerator, and climbing onto bed.
Wrist and Arm Movement - Changing gears, steering of vehicle and operating of controls.
Neck Movement - Moves head back and forth to see out of side mirrors.
Manual Labor - sweeping off trailer bed, getting on and off equipment, chaining down equipment, and if required, assisting crews with general labor work, i.e. shoveling, etc.
General Responsibilities
Adheres to all company, client, and project policies, procedures, standards, etc. including but not limited to the Safety Manual, the Employee Handbook, and the Fleet Safety Manual.
Answers directly to Project Managers, Operations Managers, Superintendents, Corporate Officers, or others given authority by the company.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 2 years truck driving and equipment transportation experience. Must possess a basic understanding in the operation of the construction equipment used by this company.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
In accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, a driver must be able to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must maintain a Class A CDL.
Must possess a current Medical Examiner's Certificate.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The employee is occasionally required to work long hours, (normal work hours average 10 to 12 hours per day; conditions may dictate up to 16 hours to complete the project).
