We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Patient Counsellor to provide psychological support to individuals and families affected by Paediatric Neurological disorders. The counsellor will play a critical role in patient navigation, risk assessment, counselling, and education to improve diagnosis, treatment access, and patient advocacy. The position is part of a project aimed at strengthening Rare Disease care and patient support in India.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Counselling & Patient Support:

  • Provide comprehensive counselling to patients and families with suspected or confirmed Rare Diseases.
  • Explain inheritance patterns, genetic risks, and natural history to affected individuals and caregivers.
  • Offer emotional support and help patients understand their diagnosis, disease progression, and potential complications.

2. Patient Navigation & Care Coordination:

  • Assist patients in accessing diagnostic services, treatment options, and clinical trials within the hospital.
  • Work closely with neurologists, geneticists, dermatologists, and paediatric specialists at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) to ensure holistic patient management.
  • Provide onsite counselling and follow-up to improve patient adherence to treatment plans.

3. Advocacy & Patient Group Formation:

  • Support the establishment of patient support group, providing guidance and resources.
  • Organize online and in-person support sessions to connect patients and caregivers.
  • Advocate for patients’ inclusion in national rare disease programs and policy discussions.

4. Education & Awareness:

  • Develop educational materials and conduct awareness programs for patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Address misconceptions and stigma associated with Rare Diseases.

5. Data Management & Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate patient records and track counselling outcomes.
  • Support documentation for funding applications, patient assistance programs, and advocacy initiatives under NPRD.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Master’s degree in social work, Psychology, Genetic Counselling or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in clinical genetic counselling or working with patient groups
  • Excellent communication skills in Hindi/English
  • Experience in patient advocacy, support groups, or rare disease organizations is a plus.
