Who We Are & Why This Role Exists
At AgResearch Labs (ARL), we are building next-generation clean food systems through aeroponics, automation, and scalable farm infrastructure.
Our core aeroponic platform combines:
• fluid mechanics
• precision misting systems
• plant science
• controlled environment engineering
As we scale Growize, we are now building a strong intellectual property (IP) layer around our systems.
This role is not just about filing patents.
It is about helping us:
• understand existing global IP deeply
• identify what is truly patentable
• build a structured pipeline of innovations
• support high-quality patent filings
Role Overview
We are looking for a Patent & IP Consultant (SME) who can work closely with founders to:
• analyse research and patents
• identify IP opportunities
• structure invention disclosures
• support patent drafting and filing through external counsel
This is a high-thinking, low-bureaucracy role suited for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of engineering, research, and IP strategy.
Scope of Work
1. Patent Landscape & Prior Art Analysis
• Conduct deep research across:
- Indian and global patent databases (IPO, WIPO, Espacenet, USPTO, Google Patents)
- academic papers and technical literature
• Map existing IP in:
- aeroponics
- hydroponics
- fluid delivery systems
- greenhouse / controlled environment systems
• Identify overlaps, risks, and white-space opportunities
2. Technical Understanding of ARL Systems
• Work with founders through structured discussions to understand:
- nozzle and misting systems
- nutrient delivery and circulation
- structural and system design
- automation / IoT layers
• Break down systems into patentable components
3. Patent Opportunity Identification
• Identify:
- novel components
- system-level innovations
- process innovations
• Recommend:
- what should be patented
- what should be kept as trade secrets
- how to structure claims
4. Invention Documentation & Drafting Support
• Prepare structured invention disclosures
• Work with external patent agents/lawyers to:
- translate technical concepts into legal language
- refine claims
- improve defensibility
• Review drafts before filing
5. Filing Coordination Support
• Support end-to-end filing process with patent counsel:
- provisional / complete specification
- drawings and documentation
• Ensure clarity, completeness, and alignment with strategy
6. IP Pipeline & Strategy
• Build a structured pipeline of:
- current innovations
- future patent opportunities
• Create simple systems to track:
- ideas → drafts → filings → portfolio
• Support long-term IP roadmap for ARL
Who We’re Looking For
• Strong experience in patent research, drafting, or technical IP consulting
• Background in:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Agricultural Engineering
- Fluid Mechanics
- Environmental / Systems Engineering
• 4–8+ years of relevant experience
• Strong ability to:
- read patents and research papers
- understand engineering systems
- translate technical ideas into structured documentation
• Experience working with startups or R&D teams is a strong plus
Engagement Model
• Duration: 3–6 months (extendable based on outcomes)
• Structure: Monthly retainer
• Time Commitment: Flexible (part-time / project-based)
• Working Mode: Remote with periodic calls with founders & R&D Team
