Job Description – Patching and Infrastructure Management, VMware Support Engineer
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced IT Infrastructure & VMware Support Engineer to support enterprise infrastructure operations, monitoring, and patch management activities across distributed environments. The candidate will be responsible for VMware ESXi patching, HPE firmware updates, infrastructure monitoring, incident management, and proactive troubleshooting of servers, storage, and networking devices.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the PDS Manager at the beginning of the shift to align operational priorities and ongoing activities.
- Perform ESXi hypervisor patching using VMware vCenter Lifecycle Manager (vLCM).
- Execute HPE server firmware patching through HPE iLO Amplifier.
- Manage quarterly patching activities across multiple remote locations and servers.
- Identify, validate, monitor, audit, and deploy firmware and hypervisor patches as per defined SOPs.
- Monitor enterprise infrastructure including HPE servers, storage devices, VMware environments, Aruba and Juniper network devices.
- Utilize tools such as VMware vCenter, Logic Monitor, VMware Velo Cloud, and iLO Amplifier for infrastructure monitoring and management.
- Proactively monitor alerts, identify issues, and escalate incidents to Level 2/Level 3 teams.
- Maintain dashboards, monitoring reports, and infrastructure health reports using Logic Monitor.
- Perform infrastructure audits and monitor newly deployed equipment.
- Monitor NAS storage devices and ensure timely escalation of issues.
- Create, track, and manage incidents through Freshservice ticketing platform.
- Follow operational SOPs and ensure compliance with patching and monitoring standards.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related technical field.
- Minimum 4+ years of experience in IT infrastructure support and VMware administration.
- Strong experience in ESXi patching and HPE firmware management.
- Hands-on experience with VMware vCenter, ESXi, and vLCM.
- Experience working with HPE iLO Amplifier and enterprise server environments.
- Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Logic Monitor.
- Basic understanding of VMware Velo Cloud and cloud/network orchestration technologies.
- Familiarity with Aruba and Juniper network devices.
- Understanding of LAN, WLAN, and WAN infrastructure monitoring.
- Experience in incident management, troubleshooting, and escalation handling.
- Strong analytical, monitoring, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with ticketing tools such as Freshservice is preferred.
