Role And Responsibilities Of Telecom Expense Management System
Experience: 6 - 9 Years
Role Overview
The
Telecom Expense Management (TEM) Engineer is responsible for management of telecommunications services and expenditures. This role ensures that all connectivity services including MPLS, Internet, Cloud Connectivity, and IP Telephony are cost-effective, high-performing, and accurately invoiced. Act as the primary contact between the client, internal stakeholders, and service providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Invoice Validation & Financial Management
- Conduct monthly audits of telecom invoices to ensure billing accuracy against contracted rates.
- Identify and resolve billing discrepancies, overcharges, and "cramming" with service providers.
- Maintain a centralized inventory of all circuits, assets, and service contracts.
- Cost Optimization & Market Research
- Continuously research service providers to identify superior service offerings and competitive pricing.
- Analyze usage patterns to identify opportunities for cost savings (e.g., disconnecting unused lines etc.).
- Conduct benchmarking exercises to ensure the client is receiving market-leading rates for MPLS, Cloud Connect, and VPN services, etc.
- Service Performance & SLA Analysis
- Analyze the report of service availability and performance against established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Document service disruptions and lead "Service Credit" claims process for outages.
- Assess area coverage and service feasibility for new site deployments or expansions.
- Provider Coordination & Support
- Serve as the primary point of contact for service providers regarding technical issues, circuit migrations, and service upgrades.
- Coordinate with providers to expedite the resolution of persistent service quality issues.
- Oversee the provisioning and decommissioning of telecom services (Internet, Leased Lines, SIP Trunks, etc.).
Skills & Qualifications
- Service Knowledge: Understanding of global telecom services, including MPLS, SD-WAN, Dedicated Internet Access (DIA), Cloud Connectivity (ExpressRoute/Direct Connect), and IP Telephony.
- Analytical Skills: Strong ability to perform data analysis on large sets of billing data and performance metrics.
- Vendor Management: Proven experience in managing relationships and negotiations with global Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
- Tools: Familiarity with TEM (Telecom Expense Management) platforms and ServiceNow or similar ITSM tools.
