About the Role
We’re seeking a part-time developer/technical lead to help modernise a legacy internal healthcare application built on an older language resembling Classic ASP and COBOL, with a Microsoft SQL Server back end. The system operates in a secure internal network environment and currently lacks comprehensive documentation.
Your job will involve analysing, documenting, and restructuring the existing application to align with modern .NET and MVC Core architecture standards, with an emphasis on long-term maintainability, performance, and scalability.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse the existing code base to identify database interaction points and system logic.
- Document business and technical functionality through code analysis and screen reviews.
- Prepare and execute end-to-end and user testing to validate modernised components.
- Work with a snapshot of the production database, ensuring visibility and safe data handling for development use.
- Implement an n-tier architecture (Web front end, API layer, Database).
- Manage code versioning and database changes using Visual Studio SQL Projects and Git.
- Collaborate within a hybrid development structure (potentially involving UHG and InfoSys teams).
- Support migration efforts from Data Flex to ASP.NET MVC Core, focusing on claims and insurance functionality.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong, hands-on experience with ASP.NET / .NET Core, C#, and SQL Server.
- Solid understanding of Dependency Injection and ORM frameworks (Entity Framework, NHibernate, etc.).
- Proven experience in UI development and translating legacy screens into modern web interfaces.
- Previous participation in application modernization or system migration projects (especially with legacy technologies).
- Familiarity with team leadership, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration.
Preferred
- Experience in the healthcare or insurance domain (claims, eligibility, or provider systems).
- Knowledge of secure network environments and handling sensitive data.
- Ability to ensure coexistence between legacy and new systems sharing a common database.
Soft Skills
- Analytical thinker with strong documentation and communication ability.
- Self-driven, detail-oriented, and comfortable working part-time in a distributed or hybrid setup.
- Able to balance hands-on development with technical oversight.
Commitment: Part-time (flexible hours)
Location: Remote or hybrid (depending on security/clearance requirements)
