About the Role:
The Endo-Sterile Processing Technician Noncertified PRN plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and effectiveness of medical instruments used in endoscopic procedures. This position is responsible for the meticulous cleaning, decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of endoscopic equipment to prevent infection and maintain compliance with healthcare standards. The technician supports clinical teams by providing sterile instruments promptly and efficiently, contributing directly to patient care quality and procedural success. Working in a fast-paced healthcare environment, the role demands strict adherence to protocols and attention to detail to uphold patient safety. This position operates on a PRN (pro re nata) basis, offering flexible scheduling to meet fluctuating departmental needs across various healthcare settings in the United States.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in sterile processing or a related healthcare environment strongly preferred.
- Basic knowledge of infection control principles and sterilization techniques.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and protocols accurately.
- Physical ability to perform repetitive tasks, including standing for extended periods and handling instruments.
- Must be willing to sit for and pass Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in sterile processing (e.g., CBSPD, IAHCSMM) is advantageous but not required.
- Experience specifically with endoscopic instrument processing.
- Familiarity with healthcare information systems and instrument tracking software.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities:
- Understanding of departmental policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for High-Level Disinfection (HLD) and safety protocols
- Maintain records for Quality Assurance and Compliance with AAMI Standard and AORN.
- Successfully performs High-Level Disinfection (HLD), to include manual cleaning, of all equipment and accessories according to Manufactures Instruction for Use (MFIU) and department guidelines.
- Ensure to wear appropriate PPE while handling body fluids and performing decontamination procedures
- Scans all items received in work areas.
- Receives and inventories departmental supplies, instrumentation and equipment.Communicates all defects of instrumentation and equipment, delays
- Maintain compliance with infection control standards, safety regulations, and hospital policies to minimize risk of contamination.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure timely availability of sterile instruments and respond promptly to urgent requests.
- Document all processing activities accurately in tracking systems to ensure traceability and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in ongoing training and quality improvement initiatives to stay current with best practices in sterile processing.
Skills:
The required skills enable the technician to perform precise cleaning and sterilization processes that are critical to patient safety and infection prevention. Attention to detail ensures that all instruments are inspected and assembled correctly, reducing the risk of procedural complications. Communication skills facilitate effective collaboration with clinical teams to meet urgent needs and maintain workflow efficiency. Familiarity with sterilization equipment and protocols allows the technician to operate machinery safely and troubleshoot minor issues. Preferred skills, such as certification and experience with endoscopic instruments, enhance the technician's ability to handle specialized equipment and contribute to continuous quality improvement.
This is a PRN position will need to be able to work Monday and Wednesdays day first shift.
PRN hours, Non-Exempt position, Eligible for shift differential and overtime pay, if applicable.
