About the Department

Padre Dam Municipal Water District is seeking a committed, safety-focused Electrician/Instrumentation & Control Technician to support the operation and maintenance of the electrical and instrumentation systems across our water distribution and wastewater facilities. 

This position is responsible for ensuring critical infrastructure operates safely and efficiently, supporting public health and environmental compliance. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong troubleshooting skills and experience with electrical, electronic, and controls systems, including industrial automation. 

Successful candidates will contribute to a collaborative, team-oriented environment and support both routine and emergency response activities.  


Successful candidates will be invited to interview early June 2026.

This position is eligible for appointment within the following Salary Grades:

  1. Salary Grade 22 - $36.81 - $52.06
  2. Salary Grade 26 - $42.35 - $59.91

Future Salary increase: June 2026 – 3.25% to base pay


The Position:

Under the general supervision of the Operational Technology Supervisor, incumbents are responsible for performing skilled electrical/electronic installations, repairs and maintenance on Padre Dam’s, water distribution pump stations, wastewater pumping stations, and facilities electrical systems. The Electrician/Instrumentation & Controls Technician tests, troubleshoots, calibrates, repairs and performs preventative/predictive/corrective maintenance on a variety of electrical, electronic, telecommunication and instrumentation systems, components and devices. The technician will operate devices such as digital meters, infrared camera, megger, etc.; document and prepare reports as necessary, operate CAD program in order to prepare, update, and document changes to AS BUILTs, single-line diagrams, schematics, specifications, etc. Other duties include; installing electrical/electronic equipment, motors, motor control centers, remote terminal units, chlorination equipment, instrumentation, service entrance equipment ; monitoring the electrical/electronic operation of sewage lift stations and water pumping equipment; installing, repairing and maintaining radio telemetry systems; contacting the power companies about power outages and public safety power shutdowns; monitoring load cell devices; performing operational tests on motors, valves, actuators, switchgear, motor control centers and related electrical systems; evaluating the condition of auxiliary equipment; inspecting work done by contractors; purchasing equipment and supplies required for projects; engineering/co-engineering electrical projects; calibrating instrumentation level/pressure transmitters and ultrasonic level/flow meters using control/office computers; responding to after-hours system emergencies; and such other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Training/Experience Required:

  1. High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) and four years’ experience in installing and repairing equipment and related systems; or, 
  2. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Licensing Requirements:

  1. Valid California Driver’s License; AND 
  2. Current State of California General Electrician Certificate; AND
  3. State Water Resources Control Board, Water Distribution Certification Grade I, within one year from date of hire 
  4. CWEA Electrical & Instrumentation Technologist Grade 1 Certification or ISA Certified Control Systems Technician is highly desired
